Is there a better brightness contol?

It seems that the lowest setting of brightness is still pretty bright. Is there a third party app that gives a more presice adjustment?

You do not specific which device you own, but for the X50 (not sure if it applies to the X51), there is a contrast applet you can use:

Also,

Are there any profile programs? So you can set the volume and brightness depending on the time of day? I used Profiles with my Treo 650 and it was a huge help. I would love it with my Axim x51

Don't know about better, but I use the brightness slider included in Today warrior. It is certainly more convenient and it adjusts to a minimum value without turning off the backlight. The built in adjustment is a nusiance trying to set the minimum without completely turning off the backlight.

This is on a X50V. Don't know about compatibility with X51.

Tried TOdayWarrior. It still only allows a few brightness levels just like the built in applet.

Try X50mix, which allows different sound profiles. In bonus, X50v unleashes the full capability of your X50v sound chip (same chip used in iPod.)

you mean the Bass & 3D pan?
Bass or 3D distortion occurs when reach 55%, This is not really 'unusual' ..well certain DAP have SRS Trubass distort when using more than 50-80%.

My optimal parametric range is
45% on Bass.
85% on Treble
25% on 3D pan but Id prefer dont use it. -Better get 40th play or Pocket Player for realistic reverb (like EAX on SB live)

eh...Im going off topic ...

Although you asked about brightness control, SolSie mentioned X50mix because it has a profile feature that you mentioned interest in.

It would be nice to be able to find a lower brightness setting to save the battery without having to edit the registry.

Other than the hack that doesnt work after you reset it.

I also would like to set my brightness lower than the lowest setting without turning the backlight off. I have a x51v (and used to have a x51v). I used to have a Palm Zire 71 and used to have it MUCH dimmer than the Axims.

Most users of the axim are interested in this as it will greatly improve the battery life and also poses less strain on the eyes while reading the dark.
However, it seems there is no way so far to dim the backlight to a greater degree without hacking the registry...
