cab Installer broken

I've been happily installing and uninstalling programs on my x50v witnh WM5 then I find a cab installer that doesn't work... I then try others and none of them work!
Whatever cab I install I get the message 'Installation of xxx.cab was unsuccessful.'
I have gone to add and remove programs and found that it just looks blank.
I've also looked in the registry at HKLM\Security\AppInstall and i can see the programs I have installed there. Does anyone know what else I could do instead of doing a hard reset?

I have the same problem. I just did a hard reset last night so I could start fresh. I installed about 5 or six things and now it won't let me do any more. My remove programs list is also empty.
