SJphone and Axim51v

This is great! I just installed free SJphone software to my 51v and it worked great. I can make and receive phone call from my 51v through Callpacket voip. :) I believe this software supports vonage, freeworlddialup, and many others voip companies.
Try it!

hm....I believe with voip as long as you have a wifi connection you can make a call anywhere in the US for free. If I were you, I'd ditch my cell phone and get wireless internet on my axim so as to use the voip service anywhere!

Do I smell the death of overpriced cell phones????? :ax:

I've been using it too with viatalk. Works great and I can't believe how good the call quality is, even with a poor wifi connection.

Could any of you guys post a quick tutorial on how to do this. I've never used voip before and would be interested to learn how to set up my Axim to do this. I think a lot of people would be interested in the nuts and bolts of this set up, ie: hardware required (Do I just need my Axim and wireless network), Software required, and any subscription service needed ( especially free ones). Thanks

You don't need any other hardwares beside your axim and wireless network. Maybe it's cool if we have a bluetooth headset.

You need to install SJphone software from http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html
I used SJphone for PPC2003SE (.exe), build 303c, Oct 26, 2005
but as you can see on their website, you can download the preconfiguration for Vonage, Freeworlddialup.

You need a VOIP service.
-Freeworlddialup (www.freeworlddialup.com) is free but you can call people in their network (like Skype, MSN, Yahoo) and some other VOIP network as you can see here http://www.freeworlddialup.com/learn...eature=peering
-Callpacket (www.callpacket.com) have many different plans (the cheapest is $0.95/month-used to be free)and very simple to setup.
proxy domain: voip.callpacket.com
user domain: voip.callpacket.com
server address: voip.callpacket.com
username: cp******* (as assigned by callpacket)
password: ******* (as assigned by callpacket)
-Vonage (www.vonage.com). I did not try this, so I have no experiences.

Anyone knows how to setup with other VOIP companies such as Packet8, Sunrocket, Lingo...please post! Thanks

I believe sprint offers nationwide wifi for $60/mo. As soon as that drops down this will become very hot b/c you'll be able to go anywhere w/your phone.

I'm really happy w/ viatalk (if anyone wants to try them I have viavites worth something like $25 off signing up). They had a massive outage this weekend due to a DOS attack but oddly enough even though my home phone was down I could dial out over my x51v.

I pay ~$14 a month for 500 minutes a month to anywhere in the US (there is unlimited for $19).

The quality is amazing and I was totally blown away when I tried it for the first time. I emailed vitalk tech support and they sent me all the settings I needed for a softphone. It was not sjphone specific but was really easy to setup.

What I think I so cool about it is as long as I have wifi, no matter where I am in the world my x51v will ring when my home phone gets a call. Even if I'm in japan (not that I've been there...) people could call me like a local call to my home. Pretty cool!!!

I did look at viatalk website. Do you have to pay extra fee for softphone access feature? Like Vonage, they charge $5/month for 500 min. I tried to call their customer service but it's not available I really wonder about how good of their services. :exc:
Thanks

They were the subject of a major denial of service attack last week. It pretty much crippled them for nearly 3 days (I just read that another attack took down godaddy.com also... ouch). I guess they took phone customer service down and placed everyone on tasks to get things right. Email customer service is working though. I've gotten some answers in less than a day (but usually in a few hours). People are kind of jumpy with them right now due to the service being down but I'm willing to give them a chance...

No charge for softphone features....

Hmm

I've tried this so many times, every month for like 8 months i would call my cable company (which is my VOIP provider) and be like "Sooooooo can I use a softphone with your network yet?". They're always like no, we're "thinking" about making that option available but currently do not support softphone apps.

If you are willing to go for trial and error, you may be able to figure out the settings to get it to work. If you have access, take a look at the settings in our VOIP adapter and you may be able to figure out the settings for the softphone.

Does anyone know any VOIP company offer best deal at this time? It must support softphone on Axim 51v.

Thanks
