So I read the recent review of the new ASUS Mypal 636 found here: http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/rev...-a636-en.shtml
And I read that this pocketpc comes with WM5.0 and also came with the Widcomm/Broadcomm drivers that the HP Ipaqs come with. So why is it that Dell screws us over with MS's bluetooth stack? We should somehow petition and request Dell to add a fully functional bluetooth stack such as the broadcomm stack (because we know it works on other ppcs) to the next rom update. It seems like Dell just screwed us over just to save a few bucks by not paying broadcomm to use their stack.
Totally agree. If it was to save a few bucks, it was stupid. I would gladly have paid a few extra dollars to have the Widcomm stack instead.
It would be especially good if this site could do a news page story about the topic, so Dell notices it. I think every x51v owner is probably unhappy about the topic.
It should have come with no bluetooth stack, and have an option for the user to install one. Its just a driver, and should not be hard-coded into the OS.

I know with laptops you can sometimes use another stack instead from other manufacures. On my Dell XPS Gen2 I use a differnt one and it was just a hacked install. Can we change the Asus one to work with ours?
Yeah, I think we really got the short end of the stick w/ the Bluetooth stack in WM 5.0 on our Dells. I recently upgraded from WM 2003SE to WM 5.0 on my X50v and found the new Bluetooth stack to be vastly inferior to the one that was included w/ WM 2003SE. Some functionality I was able to get before is now lost w/ the same Bluetooth devices I used before.
It's even worse for X51v owners as they have no way of going to WM 2003SE that I'm aware of. Here's hoping that Dell adds a better Bluetooth stack in future ROM updates....
I would love to know where. This is getting more than annoying.

I know! I was soooo disappointed when I found out that my new axim doesnt have a widcomm BT Stack. Now I'm thinking about going back to HP but I LOVE my Axim. =**(
The bt stack on x51v really sucks. I checked out ipaq 2490 in my local best buy the other day, it has the full featured widcomm bt stack and more free RAM(56MB, I think). *sigh*

You may want to try installing a program called ProximityMail (http://www.inventop.com/register.htm). I do not know if it will work with WM5, but I use it on my Axim w/ 2003, and it allows me to switch between various Widcomm Bluetooth stack versions. This may give us the functionality we are looking for. I have my doubts, seeing as how this deals with how software and the OS interface with the hardware....but if someone out there wants to give it a try, go for it... :approve:

It would all be just whining if it weren't for the fact that they broke it in the transition between 2003SE and 5.0. And I say we ought to kneecap them for it.
It's just another point in favor of staying put with 2003SE...
Well, many of us can't just stay or rollback to 2003SE, becuase we have an X51.

this sucks, but I really dont know that making a petition will do anything. It was their choice not to include broadcomms. But im really unhappy about it.
