Considering Axim x51v

Ok, I could use some real help here! I currently own a T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition (I do not use it as a phone, I use it simply as an organizer for calendar, contacts, etc, and to access the internet several times a week and to send and receive email several times a day). It uses GPRS through T-Mobile. I love the fact that I can access the internet and send and receive emails while in my car (i.e. no need to be in a hot spot, no additonal devices needed for BT, etc). Now, I will say that this was my first PPC so I have no experience with BT or WiFi, only GPRS, which I like (though occasionally slow, I love the flexibility).

All that being said, I am ready to upgrade as I am on my 3rd replacement device right now (too many problems). Many people have recommended the Axim x51v to me, but I have no idea how difficult or easy it will be for me to send/receive email, access the internet, etc. All the other stuff I am sure will be the same, though maybe better, since the Axim I believe has Windows Mobile 5.0. So, any feedback or ideas on whether this device might be good from me or what you all think of it in general? Also, please remember that I am a newbie to all this, so if you throw around a lot of lingo, my eyes just might roll into the back of my head! :)

Thanks,
Cass

The X51v won't have GPRS, so you would need to connect it to a phone (cable, IR, or Bluetooth), buy a GPRS CF card (about $200 and would also give you phone capability), or just learn to use WiFi hotspots or connected to your cradle.

X51 won't be as convenient as smartphone

The smartphone has you spoiled compared to the X51. You will need some peripheral device to access the internet from the x51 at will. There is a compact flash cellular card that you can get from sprint for internet access. You will have issues with the sw and hw as well. They may or may not require hw replacements. I had a toshiba that was replaced 4 times and it could very well happen with dell. on the upside the dell will have a bigger screen and faster processor and more expansion slots.

What is this card that you referred to? I think I am ready to step up to the Axim now, so I wanted to find out what my options are for internet access.

If you do email with your PDA all the time and not much else, maybe you're a *shock horror* blackberry candidate? (Braces for death by axim fans :P)

Take a look at the Palm Treo 700w. It run on Pocket PC.

As for me, I am lurking here and dont have a X51v yet. I am waiting for a sell, but I am dying as I speak. I dont know how longer I can wait.
