X51V not ActiveSync'ing

Hi all,
Just got my X51V, connected to cradle after installing MS Autosync 4.1 on my XP based intel PC.

The Autosync green icon (on the taskbar) light up and animates with a message of "Connecting" and stays there for almost 30 mins - nothing seems to be happening.

Am I doing something wrong? Tried it with my S/W firewall on and off - no difference. I have two USB connections for the X51 - the Dell Cradle and a non-OEM USB connector directly to the PC's USB port.

Q2:
When I plug the X51V into the PC (USB), a yellow info box appears on XP PC recognising the plug-in and identifying it correctly as DEL X51", BUT, the entry in Device Manager, under Network Connections calls it a "Windows mobile-based device". Is THIS the problem? Are the correct Axim drivers not loading in Windows XP?
