Got my X51v to sync wirelessly with Exchange Server!

Hi everyone

I got my new X51v a few days ago and like a lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to get ActiveSync to work with Exchange Server, but running into the 85010014 problem.

Well, today after googling some more, I found the solution!

I have Exchange Server 2003 SP2 installed, and the thing I had to do was:

1. Turn off Forms-based authentication.
2. Browse to the root of my C:\ drive on the exchange server
3. Copy the .CRT file for the SSL certificate and rename it to a .CER file.
4. Copy that .CER file to my X51v SD card
5. Click on it within File Explorer on the X51v to install it.
6. Connect wirelessly and Sync one item at a time starting with Tasks, then Contacts, then Calendars, then Email

Finally everything can be synced at once, including Email attachments.

I hope this information is useful!

It certainly is! But I would imagine that some users would rather have root canal and a tax audit at the same time than go through this configuration! Just kidding

Suman - very useful but unfortunately i cannot get access to my companies exchange server and i would dearly like to get this working.

As opposed to come at it from the server end i can across this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en which appears to tackle it at the PDA end by a registry tweak.

I cannot get this to work either on my x51v.

I run the CERTCHK off from a dos box on my desktop with the pda in the cradle but receive an error message

ERROR: Unable to open registry key

Any ideas - many thanks

CERTCHK will not work on WM5 devices. I had the same problem when I rebuilt my Exchange 2003 SP2 server at home and it took me a while before I remembered what the problem was.

Exchange ActiveSync has a problem when using SSL and Forms Authentication. I did not want to turn this off as I use the FA for OWA. The workaround is to create a new Virtual IIS directory on the Exchange server which doesn't have SSL configured - see http://www.petri.co.il/problems_with...activesync.htm (method #3) for more details. This article taken from one on the Microsoft website but I don't have the URL to hand.

I still have SSL between my X51v and my ISA server though which works well.

Regards,

Stewart

PS. Just found the URL from the Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=817379

WiFi Synch sounds very interesting. I have to try it soon. I still have the stupid "85010014" problem.

I sync to my home Exchange server from (obviously) my PC at home, from the cradle on my PC at work and also GPRS and WiFi when I am out and about. Very handy indeed.

I'm trying to get the LAN guys here to sort out the certificate issues with PDAs on the work's WiFi infrastructure. Then we'll be laughing. He's got the incentive too as he also has a WiFi enabled PDA.
