new X51V hang after ozVGA installed ...

Hi, All:

Just got my X51V, synced with ActiveSync4.1 on my PC. Installed MemMaid, then ozVGA. Upon soft reset, the screen shows only the dell background and nothing else now. Even hard reset doesn't help. And it refuse to sync with my PC now.

What did I do wrong ? ... anyway to save it back ? ... Can't seem to find any troubleshooting on ozVGA site, please help, Thanks !

ozVGA works fine for me (axim x51v, wm5, hardware A00, rom A01).
Are you sure a hard reset doesn't work (reset + power, you should get prompt, press a button to restore factory settings. then dell logo appears, then what happens, it just stays there?)

Anyways ozvga worked perfect for me, but it takes some work and some time to get all icons and resources loaded correctly (i haven't took the time to get them all yet, but the axim is basically usable without these, a notable exception is the two dropdowns at the top of File Explorer.) For example, the start button has no little flag picture without doing this.

If you want the graphics, you need to copy and rename some files in your \Windows folder. It is any file ending with .96.dll or .96.exe or with a 96 in the name. oh and sorry if this isnt clear, i'm writing it in about 2 minutes, post back if you need more help.

Use this tool (worked for me):
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=...fileinfo&id=83
to dump all files to your cf card. If you don't have a cf card, just use file explorer and make a folder "\Storage Card", it will still work the same. Unfortunately it never sorts them by original folder, only by 'modules' and 'files'. Copy it to your axim, run it, and wait (~10 or 15 min.) After it's done, find all *.96.* files, rename them to *.192.* and copy them to where they were originally (probably \Windows) then you should see the graphics.

Please post back, let us know how this worked. I'll probably revise it because i wrote it so quick.

Hi, zildjohn01:

The reset + power trick works (but I lost previous installed apps). Thanks for the tip, I'll be more careful now. ozVGA does need some tweak ... I'll read more before I start doing it now ... Thanks again !

Well, it happened again.

It happened when I press the "ozVGA" button (the one next to "Cancel"). I thought that button will take the screen to VGA resolution, but instead, it hang the whole X51V. I have to hard-reset it again ...

Weird ...??

Hi, All:

This is still an issue for me. What I found is that if I don't copy over *96.dll, *.96.gif over to my X51v, ozVGA can switch to VGA mode and I'll miss some icons, and the soft keyboard is gone. Once I copy over those 18 *.96.* files, after soft reset it hangs ...

Any one has a working set of *96.dll, *96.gif files for X51V ? ... many Thanks !

That's NOT a trick ... that's how you perform a hard reset !!!! :D

...what's did you think a hard reset involved ???

I'm also having a very similar problem - after loading ozVGA, tapping ozVGA button, the 51v did a soft-restart and hung. It was in VGA, but the spinning window icon stayed over the Dell logo, Bluetooth light blinked, but that was all. No amount of button-pushing or soft-restarting would help. I did a hard-restart and ONLY loaded ozVGA ... same problem every time (did it 3x to be sure).

I did an A04 ROM update when I first got the Axim yesterday - I'm wondering if that didn't foul it all up.

BTW- when I tried to load se_VGA, after launching it, I got a blank warning box (with big red X, the only option was to close the box) and se_VGA ended. Tried re-loading that a couple of times, same problem.

A little bit frustrating, being a PPC user for over 6 years and now HAVING a VGA device, but not being able to see anything in VGA. Talk about dangling the carrot!

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome! This site is a GREAT resource and I'm glad I found it.

Cheers,
MJ

It's not the A04 ROM, mine is still in A01 ROM and having this issue.

Try not to copy over the *.96.dll and *.96.gif file, lauch ozVGA, at least I can see my X51v in VGA mode that way. But I need a working set of those *96.* files to show the icons and soft keyboard.

Still searching answer ... MJ-bos please post back if you get it working.

Hi, Liore:

That works ! ... although I need to install the Resco explorer and zip the 2 dlls (instmsgrresources.96.dll, pmsnresources.96.dll) over then unzip it to windows dir. Not sure about what the SdkCert.cab for but I run it anyway. It's working now, and I can see all the icons and the soft keyboard is back.

Now the fun begins ... Thanks a lot, case closed !

Thank you MUCH - it worked

Liore (and everyone else who helped)

Many thanks - it worked after I dl'd the files indicated in the link.

So, I now realize very clearly that eyesight is the first thing to go with age. Unfortunately, I'm still in my 30's and didn't think I'd have to worry about this problem for a while yet!

While everything being so small is a pain, being able to actually see Acrobat full pages and be able to access IE in a somewhat "real" size makes up for it.

I'll likely switch back and forth depending on need. Less than ideal, but I can live with it for now.

I tried the NetFront browser -- no go with my bank or VPN, so guess I'll have to wait.

Ctitanic, I'm using your Tweaks2k2 application (nice!) and I've seen mention of "Brute Force" but must be missing something - how do I force Acrobat to use real VGA w/o the ozVGA and soft reset?

Thanks much,
MJ
(now a happy iPAQ to Axim convert)

Nevermind - I figured it out. VERY nice feature, allowing me to selectively force apps to be real VGA. That alone is worth the price of Tweaks2k2.

Cheers,
MJ
