Built-in storage and Main memory ?

I am using X51v ,WM5 . I read on the tutorial here which told me that there were Built-in storage , Main memory , SD card ( in my case , I am using SD card ). However , everytime I install any program , there are only 2 choices which my X51v gives me to install , Device and SD card. If I choose Device , I do not know whether the program is installed in Built-in storage or Main memory. Please tell me about it . I heard that I should not install program on Built-in storage so I am afraid of doing a bad thing.

Thanks so much for your replies.

With the new OS, WM5, there is no longer a specific "Built-in Storage" or BIS. All programs are now added to what used to be called BIS. It's one of the big benefits of WM5, better memory management. Main memory is reserved for actually running the applications as you use them on the PDA. Have a hunt around for some reviews on the X51v and they may explain it better.

So, you're doing the right thing if you choose Device, unless you want to run the program from the SD card.

When doing a hard reset on an WM5 device, I guess this would delete the programs (but not the OS) in the BIS too. But how does the Axim know what to leave and what to clear, since both Main Memory and BIS are combined in WM5?

Sorry, this is all kind of confusing for a newbie. :rolling:

main memory and bis aren't combined. the main memory you're talking about (ram) is what the axim uses to run programs, the programs are stored in the bis or storage card. when you hard-reset everything in bis remains (or at least thats how it is in wm2003se, not sure about wm5).
