This may seem like a dumb question , but what is the best way to change a Wave file into an MP3 type. Assume I have ripped the track from an CD into WAV already.
Thanks,

Thanks,
You can rip them directly as MP3s.
I play mine with GSPlayer, and set the home button to turn off the display. Works great.
Does anyone here own an iaudio G3 as well as an axim? Apparently iaudios have the highest signal to noise ratio of all mp3 players, plays ogg format and the battery life is up to 50 hours on one AA. Sounds atractive but I would like a comparison of sound quality vs the Axim x50v/x51v before I commit to buy one. Thanks.

Thanks,
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD25 headphones, and I listened properly to my new 51v in a totally silent room last night. I was very impressed indeed. I have no complaints at all, it really was able to show MP3 compression that I dont usually hear on my PC due to its fans (even though I have nice speakers)
I don't know about the X51v but the audio quality of the X50v is not that impressive. Comparing it side-by-side to my Creative Nomad Jukebox 3, it's clear that sound quality is not the X50v's strength. It sounds noticeably flat compared to my MP3 player when connected to simple headphones or my car's speakers. It's obvious enough to me that I don't need to really use a "high-end" system to spot the difference. I should note I also disabled all equalizer functions while doing A/B tests between the two when I first got it.
I certainly don't have much to complain about as the X50v does an adequate job w/ audio when I really need to use it in a pinch. Plus, I didn't have unduly high expectations of its use as an audio device since that's not what it was designed for nor why I bought it. My dedicated MP3 player sounds much better as I would expect it to w/ its singularly designed purpose. I'll use the X50v if my MP3 player is not available, but it certainly is not my first choice for sound quality.
FYI, The sound does not sound that impressive as Liuke said, with no enhancements. Can you try the comparison again with X50Mix and get back to us? I feel that the 3D does a world of good! :approve:

sorry... I can't think of anything witty or funny to say...
I use my x50v for music all the time and you HAVE to install and use x50Mix to increase the bass a fair bit and treble a little. The result is an excellent sound, as good as any MP3 I have tried.
Another vote for GSPlayer! As mentioned, you can map the buttons to toggle the screen on and off and there is the auto off for the screen as well.
One nice feature that I use while listening to Podcasts is the FF and REW. I haven't found any other MP3 software that does this. I have assigned the contacts and mail button to do this and you can quickly jump back or forward about 5 or 10 seconds by pressing the buttons.
GSPalyer doesn't do well with creating playlists as you have to select a file at a time, so I also have the free version of PocketPlayer installed which will create a playlist from a whole folder. That playlist file can then be opened in GSPlayer and works fine. ;)

You can always use iTunes to rip your CD's directly into mp3s, or convert other files to the mp3 format. Quite painless :)
hi, x50v + x50mix + gsplayer or tcpmp, great combo. gsplayer playlist easy, tap file, tap find file..., tap folder, tap ok, viola! do it again for different folders. you could even use check the box to include subfolders. i use good quality earbuds and the sound is excellent. my friends are blown away.
I use my x50 for pda stuff, contacts office apps etc. My ipod is for my music. The PDA excels at information management but is weaker for multimedia, specifically the battery and I've seen reports of the jack "wearing out" The iPod is a superior mp3 player but a weak contact management device. Just because either unit can do a function doesn't mean it should, or it does it particularly well.
