Upgrading a German OS x50v to WM5

Well, now that Dell finally started selling the upgrade in Germany, I ordered one and the CD arrived today. Well, it won't install. The error message reads: The upgrade does not support this language version. I googled for this problem and seems like setting the language settings on the Axim and PC to US-English does the trick (for French and Italian users), but this doesn't work for me. Also, I've not read a single comment of German users on the net (because it seems like the first shipments arrived yesterday or today), so maybe somebody here knows what to do?
Thanks

I had a similar problem with one of the WM2003 SE ROM update, it was solved by changing the regional settings to English on an XP machine.

I did that already. Maybe the problem is that it's not an English XP version.

First things first: Changing the ROM from one language to another is actually a violation of the EULA. Therefore, officially, you cannot change your German ROM to an English one, which is why the upgrade checks the current language of the device.

I've looked at Dell's website, they stated clearly that the upgrade is in English. But I think they failed to mentioned that the install will not work with German device. This sucks - you've paid for an upgrade that you cannot use.

But all is not lost. One sure way to do it: Look at this thread to first change your device to English WM2003SE. And then you will be able to proceed with the WM5 upgrade normally.

Well, the way I see it, is that the description states that the upgrade language is English, but NOT that it's only for English OS Axims. Since my English is quite good, I don't care if the OS is in English or not; so I went ahead and ordered it, thinking that the upgrade was only available in English even for German OS Axims, since it is listed under accessories on the German site. I called Dell and they told me something about there being a German update too. But where is a link to that? Neither they nor I were able to find it on the site. Anyways, awaiting a call from them anytime now.

That's where you are wrong, when you buy a OS upgrade you are buying a new license of the OS and you can choose the language of the OS when buying.

For example I have a PC with W2K french OS, I can buy XP english to upgrade my PC there's no violation here. Also I bought an Axim with WM2002 FR in the past and when I wanted to upgrade I bought WM2003 EN from Dell nothing illegal as well. And the upgrade went smoothly.

Got the call from them, they are sending me the German upgrade and I can keep the English one as well...and they are thankful that I told them that German users can only order the English version from their website ;)

I think so too. A violation would be when you change the language with the same OS (eg English WM2003 -> French WM2003).

What I should have said is that, the *update* program (eg ROM A01 -> A02) will check the device language. But because, I'm guessing, that they're just re-using the code from the *update* program, even the *upgrade* program will check the language, making an upgrade as in tobeast's case not work.
