how much memory do people normally keep free?

On my X3i:

Main Memory:

Program: 24.5 Free
Storage: 24.3 Free

This is, of course, after a soft reset with nothing loaded :)

I usually try to keep 40 megs free but recently I have been averaging 35... either way my programs still close by themselves.... that irks me very much.

I wished i could get more free RAM on my X51v. 34MB taken by WM5 on a fresh start.

I installed most programs (<5MB) on ROM and the rest and all games in my CF. Songs in SD.

I freed up RAM as much as possible to let Q3CE run but it still doesn't have enough memory even if I have 39.14 MBytes free, w/ SPB PocketPlus and CardExport installed.....

I really simplified my Today screen. The only active plug-in is PocketBreeze.

The PocketBreeze tabs (vertical) are: Calendar (PocketInformant), Tasks (PocketInformant), Messages, iLauncher, PocketWeather, Anniversaries/Birthdays (via PocketBreeze), and RSS (NewsBreak).

I would like to add two more PocketBreeze tabs: Notes (using PocketInformant's PIAlarmNotes); Finance (PocketQuicken). However, these are not yet possible.

The icons on the system tray are there via iLauncher, as is the Power Meter Bar at the top.

And hidden away is MagicButton, for when it's needed, activated by tapping in the area on the top bar just to the right of the date/time.

The four hard buttons are: PICalendar; PIContacts; ListPro; < Rotate Screen >. I set PocketBreeze to accept the center button as a toggle to show/hide the top bar as I usually do not want to relinquish the screen real estate, but sometimes want to easily filter by category what is displayed.

Can you give me step by step instructions on how you set up your today screen esp. in the first screenshot? Really like it a lot...looks so clean and easy on the eyes. Sorry for being such a noob! Thanks in advance.

three 512 mb SD with only 10 MB overall
I have trouble with keeping storage
I use WM5
