HELP Thinking of trading in my 3 month old X50 Mid for a X51V

With the anticipated Dell deal for the X51V for $399 Canadian, I was thinking of making the leap and selling my X50 Mid. Probably lose $150 or more on the switch.

Is it really worth it, is the VGA that much better?

Does TomTom Navigator 5 work with WM5?

Help, so tempted too pull the triger. To bad I haven't seen one to compare, except in the reviews.

thanks.

I faced almost exactly the same situation sometime ago--except that my x50 mid was less than a month old. I eventually decided to sell my mid and obtain a x50v (both on Ebay) and personally I believe I made the right decision. VGA is so, so much better than QVGA; everything is just much sharper. This is crucial for me since I heavily use my Axim to read academic journals in pdf image format (so reflow is impossible); it was something almost impossible to do with a mid. I was lucky to strike a good deal for my mid (patience and effort do pay on Ebay) so my upgrade was not painful financially. If you have already done some research on Ebay you will see that the final price for a used x50 mid can go anywhere between US$180 to $260; I am not sure how much loss that means to you.

I have upgraded my x50v to WM5 and with many of the known tweaks applied I think it works; if you are very dependent on the responsiveness of 2003SE then you might want to wait for some more time.

Thanks for your advice/info. Yeah, there's times that I really have to strain too see some of the text, and the VGA would help.

If the Dell's sale price is right I'm going for it and sell the Mid on Ebay as you said. The only down side is my Mid is refurbished since my original locked up with the dreaded WM5 upgrade. This well probably impact on the price I get for sure.

You are in a good possition. You have an Axim that works for you so it's not like you have to upgrade today.I would wait untill WM5 is more stable. If you are in no hurry you can wait untill the best deals pop up.A few weeks ago Dell had a deal on theX51V for less than $300.00.I bet more deals will come up after the hoidays.

Okay, you talked me out of it. The deal is today for $399 Canadian. Best too wait and see as you say. Does Dell normally offer any deals after Christams, ie. boxing day or in the spring.

You know, I did exactly what you're think about. I don't think loosing $150.00 is worth it. The X50v was rock solid and plenty of apps to keep me poor!
If I had it to do over again, I'd keep my X50v. There's just not enough differance to justify what I spent to me.

But Krustywalnuts does not have a x50v--he has a mid and that's alot of difference.

Yes, the vga screen rocks. I just upgraded from an x30mid to the x50v w/wm2003se, so I'm in a similar position to Krusty. I'm staying away from wm5. The x50v is close enough. I have the stability of wm2003se and can upgrade later...much later, when it's stable and you don't have to do a dance on your hands to make it work.

I also have tomtom and was worried about it working on the new pda, but no worries. Also, like Ticonderoga, I'll sell my x30 on ebay. It's kinda crazy what people will pay on ebay. But if you're careful you can get a great deal. Did I change your mind back?
