Silly hardreset question:

i haven't made it a priority to update my ROMs (ao3-4-5-100 or wherever we are on 2003 SE). When I do that it is an automatic hard reset, right?

What do I do with the programs that are installed both in the handheld and the PC? Do I have to uninstall and then reinstall? What preparations do I have to make (all my contact/address/schedule stuff is in the outlook 2003).

Thanks

Your contacts and stuff like that will still be in your PCs Outlook up to date as of the last time you synced so don't worry about that.

It's a good idea to do your own hard reset before you do the ROM update. Do a backup first in case you want to go back to the old ROM. Before the upgrade actually starts you will be given the option to save the old ROM to your PC again it's a good idea to do that as well.

There's more you could do but I think I've covered the basics for a good ROM upgrade.

Reinstall

You will have to reinstall all your apps. Unless you have program called sprite backup. ITs smartest enough to backup all your software.

thanks for the answers. I'm not sure about the PC vs PPC stuff though. I understand that I will have to reinstall all my PPC apps from new - but what about those who have footprints on the PC. Do I uninstall them? Also, I thought that I can restore from sprite if I update the ROM??

You can reinstall, however do to some file changes a reinstall of a backup can cause more problems than it is worth. Do the ROM backup, and then once you have reinstalled everything and have it working just the way you want, then do a full backup, that way if you have problems you can restore to the point in time when you had everything working.

Good luck,

Unless they changed something you'll need these some other files from Sprite before you can do that. The direct link to the FAQ in question didn't work so when you go to the FAQ page look for ROM Update -- Backup/Restore Procedure.
