How do you track Dell shipments?

Hello everyone,

I just discovered this site a few days ago when I was researching new PDA's. It's finally time to retire my ancient HP Jornada 525. I chose a Dell in large part due to this awesome forum.

My question is this: how do you track Dell shipments? I can see on their website that my order has shipped, but I don't see any links to track the shipment.

Anxiously awaiting my new PDA...

Thanks,
Carl

If you look at the order page, it will either give you a tracking number or tell you that it is in transit to the carrier.

On the order page, click on the word shipped (underneath Order Status). This will load a page that has the tracking number and a hyperlink to DHL's tracking site. Copy and paste the tracking number into the field on DHL's site, and you'll be able to track it :)

Thanks for the replies, but I'm still not seeing it. I see a section called "Where's my Order?", and it says my order shipped on December 12, but it offers no more details and nothing is clickable.

Could it be because I chose the 3-5 day shipping option and they don't offer tracking? I can't imagine that Dell would ship something without a tracking method, but you never know.

Ups Dhl

Only problem is... it can be UPS, DHL or even others(?).
I called UPS with the tracking number at hand.
Those people are more up-to-date then any tracking website I guess. However if it's UPS, these guys DO have very detailed tracking on-line (for any delivery option).
Dunno about DHL, but must be similar.

I used the 3-5 day shipping option, and I have a tracking number through UPS. Axim and laptop should be here sometime today!!!!

Went to dell.com clicked on home and office, logged in, and on the right side of the screen clicked on order status. Clicked the individual order number and it gave me the tracking number. FWIW the tracking number didn't show up until about twelve hours after the status had been changed to shipped. HTH

If it's a GPS shipment it can track itself!

Thanks for the great replies. If only it could track itself!

I finally broke down and e-mailed customer support to find out. If anyone is interested, I received the following automated reply (the boldface is my emphasis):

2. Obtaining carrier name and tracking number
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once the order has shipped, the order status page will give you the name of the carrier and the tracking numbers. The tracking numbers may not be listed on the site for up to 3 business days after the order has shipped. If the tracking number(s) is listed on the Order Status page, you can click on the tracking number and you will be linked to the carrier's Web site to see the status of the package.
If the tracking number is not listed on the status page, you may be able to obtain the tracking number by calling our automated status line listed above. Often the tracking number will be available on our status line before it is listed on the Web site.
Orders that complete shipping preparation after our shipping cut-off time of 7:00 PM will be picked up by the carrier on the next business day. The shipping timeframe begins on the date the order is picked up by the carrier, not the date the order becomes ready for shipment.
----------------------
The good news is that I called the automated number and found out the shipper and tracking number. The bad news is that 3-5 day shipping will be 5 days. Oh well, I guess that's what I get for ordering so close to Christmas.
Carl
How to track a shipment from Dell?
Use a calendar...a 16-month version is advisable. And don't bother calling customer support. They don't use the same calendar as the rest of us - perhaps it's a different calendar in India.
Just checked the UPS website, my PDA arrived in town at 12:14 AM and left for delivery at 3:04 AM. I'm so excited, I might have to go home at lunchtime to pick it up!
