It's slower than bluetooth, usually requires a direct line of sight, and supposedly very reliable. (My laptop has IR, but I don't use it)

You can sync activesync using IR, which means no wires, but it's kinda slow.

Thats all I got.

Thanks all.

My laptop does not have BT, so this is my only option aside from moving the docking station around, but even so, I do not really need to synch with my laptop, as I have a desktop centralized for all work/correspondence.

However, it would useful for file transfers. Also I have an IR printer (no clue at all how to access that feature on the device) so maybe I could print.

Last, it seems like it could be an entertaining challenge (at least for a couple of hours)

Sooooo... anyone with more knowledge?

I just pointed my x50v with wm5 at my wifes laptop and the laptop anounced that there was computer nearby, all i do then is right click a file and then click send to > nearby computer. If the files more than a MB it's quicker to go and find your sync cable and install activesync on the laptop...

I only use the IR to control my tv and stereo components.
Other than that, BT is the way to go.

I used IR with my laptop for a little while. The pros are, it's handy. That's about it. It seems to use more battery power, and is much slower. I finally decided to keep my cradle (minus power cord) at work, and sync that way. For home, I sync using WiFi.

I would love to be able to set up a 2-node ad-hod wifi network between my work computer (Thinkpad w/Wifi) and my Axim, but I've been unsuccessful so far. I've searched here and saw the tutorial, but I still can't get the axim to see my laptop or vice-versa. Can anyone provide any other tips?
