You might try a small bead of hot glue in place of the sponge. Run the glue along the battery, and let it cool before putting it back in the unit. The glue will take up the space, and you can trim the bead with a sharp knife if you get it to thick. It has some flexability and can be removed if you need to take it off to send the battery back.

Maybe you are thinking of a diff problem... but for me it is not because the battery is loose but because the battery latch is not held tight against the sensor... so with too much movement the sensor falsely reports that the latch was opened...

I just cut and folded up a little piece of paper, stuck it in the hole where the battery cover presses the little sensor and sits between the cover and the sensor. Haven't had a message since, and shouldn't void the warranty since I didn't actually change or open anything (can just pull out the paper).

I was thinking of doing this too, but I noticed it was already sliding up into the internal casing and I needed tweezers to remove it. I don't want stray paper or sponge fragments wondering in there because I did this once a while ago with my portable CD player, same problem, and the little piece of paper actually went inside after a while and got caught on the laser track and I had to open it up and free it. :)

I understand your concerns and i will post a pic with the way i did it for my X50v... it is very simple and it does not involve having anything stuffed on the sensor that can get lost inside...

:exc: no pic available yet but should have it online shortly..

Had battery cover problem on X51V but got a NEW replacement unit from Dell the following week and working fine now
Kept original one for 3 weeks before returning it just in case I had problems with replacement unit
Upgraded to A06 no problem
X51V withA04 was also fine

I had the exact same battery latch problem on my X50v, complained to Dell, they sent me a refurb that looks worse than my seven month old one (which, kept in a case is pristine). The refurb had the exact same problem. When I complained about the refurb the friendly yet completely unhelpful support person tried to tell me a hard reset would fix it.

This is obviously a design problem. The latches on both X50s I've looked at are weak and allow too much movement of the door leg that holds down the sensor. Since the plastic will only weaken over time, latch sensor problems like this are inevitable.

If anyone knows how to reach a cluefull person at Dell, I'd sure appreciate the info.

Well, don't bother fixing it. Just call Dell request for the replacement unit.

The Sensor that tells that Axim that the battery latch is open when it not.

Where is the actual sensor for this? I got up this AM to find my X50V (which was plugged in and charging) completely dead. Hard Reset. Unfortunately it died before my scheduled backup, so I had to go back to the previous day's backup, but didn't have too many changes and Sprite Backup put me right back anyway.

But back to my original question. Since then (less than a hour duration) I've had that "Battery Latch Door/Sleep Mode" pop up a couple of times. I've already put in a new battery and the one I took out was fully charged. The X50V has always been in an Innopocket Magnum case. As a fall back I can of course call up Dell and swap it out, but if there is a reasonably simple way to defeat this sensor without voiding the warranty I would do that. Is there?

Had the same problem. Talked with Dell Monday of this week, had a new Axim by Wednesday. Just set it up and so far have not had any problems.

They are aware of the problem and will replace the unit.

For some strange reason, they sent it without the battery and latch. Seems to me that this was part of the problem.

We'll have to wait and see if the problem is corrected.
