i had that problem once. My battery was actually damaged. The 'feet' on the battery were actually bent because i had forced it in the wrong way. every slight bump would cause the axim to say the latch was open. if that's the problem replace the battery and you should be good.

My X50v started to do this, not very often and only when I was holding it. Then it started happening at least once a day, then even when in the cradle. Rang Dell, 5 minutes on the phone and they sent me a replacement the next day. No problems now :) The old unit was about 6 months old and I've used it everyday.

The old unit was hardware revision A02, this is A06 and came preinstalled wit firmware A05, just in case anyone's interested.

Maybe the battery cover is lose. If you haven't noticed, the battery latch warning is triggered by a small switch at the edge of the battery compartment under the cover. Normally the plastic cover will push down on the switch. If the plastic is worn and can't hold down on the switch properly, then you'll get this warning.

Cool

Well, it seems like from what i read here... the common fix for this is to complain to Dell and get a new one... the prob for me is there is no Dell in this country so i had to find another fix.

It was a simple one that cut my prob down to 95% less. what i did was to cut a small (1' x 1/2' cm and that is 1 mm high) piece of soft spongy foam... now place this on top of the battery towards the bottom. This applies some better presure to the battery latch sensor when you close the cover.

Not sure if this is the best way to go but it worked for me.

I had this problem may be 3 times. Didn't have any clue as to the cause.
It looks like your solution to the problem is indeed a smart one and should serve Dell as a clue on how to address a permanent solution.

I actually have two batteries myself and regularly swap back and forth... but i found this not to be a prob... just have to be careful not to loose the small sponge piece... or you can use an adhesive to stick in to the cover so it won't get lost when you swap batteries...

but it is your call if u want to use this method or not... just think even if you get a replacement u have a chance of having the same prob later on in a few months.. :approve:

I have had this with my X50v but not with my X51v, so it seems although the units are identical physically, the problem is just a crap-shoot to which one you get. I only have the battery cover open message about 1x a month. However I like the soft sponge idea.

What a stupid error. I am thinking about super glueing the actual "sensor" button down for good but this would probably void the warranty. I am trying the sponge idea.

I usually get this error while walking and listening to music. I'm not running or anything high impact and it's really annoying. Then I need to take it out of my pocket, turn it back on and press OK and restart the music. It happens about 5 times on a mile walk. But sometimes I can be doing nothing all all, and it happends.

What good is a replacement if it will be someone elses broken one that they fix and call refurbished. Besides there is no DELL outlet here so i can't return it easily. That is why i came up with the sponge fix.
