Question Battery at 0 and RAM erases?

OK, I came home the other night and turned on my axim x50. It wouldn't come on. I plugged it in to ac and turned it on. Battery at 0%. I figured out this was the result of pocket outlook trying to connect and check for messages every 2 minutes. The weird thing is when i plugged it in and turned it on i immediatley saw the today screen, and no data was lost. I thought if ur battery died all data was lost in RAM. Or was I lucky and got there in the 30 minute life of the backup battery.
Was I lucky and got in the 30 minute slot? Or does the ppc keep more data in rom than you are told.

If you want to know the figures:
2 Days ago pocket pc at 80% battery
Programed to turn off in 1 minute on battery when no use

I got the problem solved, just curious. :)

Actually, quite the same thing happened to me with my x30 a while back. I fell asleep with it on my chest, and I forgot that I had set it up so that it wouldn't turn off on battery power. So, for at least 8 hours I slept (It was a weekend or break.), and when I woke up, it had turned off. I turned it on to see that it had run out of battery, and was resetting. I had about 1% battery left and the backup battery was depleted. Perhaps in the 30 minutes it took for the backup battery to empty, the regular battery recharged itself a little, as those types of batteries are known to do.

One of the advantages of the X51V is that what ever is stored in ROM will stay there when the battery is 0 or when it is removed totally. This includes applications you have designated to be resident in ROM and data you have set up to be stored there.

It's designed so it still has enough power to power up the ram for at least 72 hours after the battery reads 0%. Microsoft mandated this for all Windows Mobile devices...

Oh thanks, now i don't have to worry about losing my ram. So the back-up battery would kick on afee 72 hours? What the heck is it for?

To set the record straight, the backup battery doesnt do much. Only holds 30 mins of juice if you remove your main battery, its main use is to keep data in ram intact while you change your battery for example. The 72 hour rule is a Microsoft mandatory rule for all manufacturers that enough MAIN battery exists for 72 hours to power the ram, but you never use that power, your Axim will report 0% whereas you may have as much as 40% still in it. This was a main selling point of WM2005, that they could actually make use of the whole of the main battery, as they dont have a 72 hour rule
