ok, well i wasnt sure if this should be here or in the WM5 section, but i thought as it was more of a general question i should post it here. anyhow, if i put it in the wrong place would a mod/admin kindly move it to the correct place for me

anyhow, i just got my new pda today (x51v) (for xmas) anyhow, im new to WM (had palm pdas before) and just wanted to check if i need any kind of firewall, virus/spyware scanner ect for it before i go online like i do on a normal pc? or is it just "safe"?

For your pda, there is no need for a firewall or virus/spyware scanner. There aren't a lot of pda viruses out there. Plus, you can always just hard reset your device and get rid of the virus. Personally, I have never heard of someone getting a virus on their pda. In other words, don't worry about it.

Hello, merry christmas, and welcome to aximsite

I've looked into this, and there is actually another thread around here somewhere similar to the question you are asking. Anywho, there are not that many Viruses for any PPC/Windows Mobile Device. A firewall is kinda pointless on a WM device. I have been surfing happily for a few months now, and never had any problems like this whatso ever.

Just my 2 cents.

Addition who needs that kind of stuff any way huh?

Question:
A friend of mine says that there is some kind of industry push to have the ability to access your PDA or Cellular if it's WiFi or Blue Tooth enabled, with advertising as for example, when you walk by their kiosk at the mall, they shoot a little advertisement to your device.
Is there any truth to this?
If there is, in light of the fact that most of us are keeping our Blue Tooth on in our X51’s to keep from loosing the CF card, are we actually at some kind of “short range” risk?

I wonder if a PDA is even worth the trouble to target anyway... :hide:

I sure haven't heard about this but then again, that isn't to say it isn't true. Hmm... That could be a worry down the road. For right now, I'm not too concerned. Thanks for the heads up!

I keep my BT on all of the time but have not checked the box for 'Make this device discoverable to other devices;. You should be safe.
