Question Just Got My Axim X51v ... Few ?'s

My Axim came in yesterday along with the Dell GPS Receiver I purchased. Both are fantastic. I consider myself very knowledge when it come to computers but I'm stumped and have a few questions on some things.

1. If ever needed, is there a way to reformat the Axim back to its original state out of the box?

2. I have this error that keeps coming up when I hook it up to my laptop. "Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP Address in Network Settings." I'm not sure what I should do with this.

3. Memory Questions. I have 256 ROM and 64 RAM. When I click on the memory icon in settings it says I have 195 MB of Storage Memory and 49 MB of Program Memory. Does storage = ROM and Program = RAM. If so shouldn't this be 256 and 64 MB?

4. Finally, is there anything I should do or get that most people recommend for a new Axim?

If you can answer one or all of my questions, thanks in advance. I look forward to contributing to the forum as I get more experienced with my Axim.

~Paul

As for the first question, there is a thing called a hard reset. I also just received the same PDA today. There is a manual included, I do encourage you to read it. There may be others on this forum who know the answers off the top of their heads, but not me. I've never seen the error your seeing and I've owned many (10+) Pocket PC's.

Hold the power button, and push the reset button (small hole on the back, push it with your stylus). Hold both for 2 seconds I think.

Don't know either, sorry.

Actually the OS itself is inside the rom already, I think. And the OS uses part of the RAM for caching.

Read the forum, especially the large 'tips' topics.

I had this before. For some reason, my router would not assign an IP to my Axim. What I did was manually enter a LAN IP in the Axim wireless settings. I don't remember exactly where and I don't have an Axim at the moment, sorry. Dig around, you should find it. I believe it was from a screen with a horizontal list of wireless drivers, you select one and go from there. Example of an IP for this case: 192.168.0.x --> replace 'x' with a number from 0-255 (NOTE: you cannot have several devices with the same IP on a network, so pick a number which isn't used).

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I got home last night and looked at the Owner's Manual which actually is very helpful. Normally those things aren't worth the paper they are print on.
