Having problems connecting to shared drive

Hello Everyone,
I have read through the many posts about networking problems and I have the following problem that I can't figure out even with searching though the many posts on Resco's forum and here. Here's my problem...
I have an Axim x50v using WM5 and Resco File Explorer. I can see the server in Resco I just can't connect. Every time I try to map a network drive it keeps asking me for my password or gives me one of the following errors...
You do not have permission or "Cannot connect shared path. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation." The latter is the one I get 99% of the time. This leads me to believe something software related is not allowing it to connect. Since I know almost nothing about this stuff this is what I have tried...

Here's is what I have tried this far...
1. I can ping my server and also connect using terminal services client(The server is a Windows 2003 server).
2. I have opened up my firewall for UDP port 137 and TCP port 139.
3. I have set up sharing on my computer and I also tried just setting up special permissions for read only to everyone just in cast authentication was my problem.
4. I have tried setting my connection settings to work instead of my ISP.

I just set up my server a week ago and I am a huge rookie with networking stuff but I think I have checked out the essential things. I would greatly appreciate anyones help because I want to listen to music off my network drive.

Thanks a lot!

Try just manually typing in the location of the folder that you are sharing, that is what I have to do. It should look like \\(Computer name)\Drive\Folder\etc....

Thanks for the reply. I tried that but in the standard file explorer I get the error "network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network". Resco still gives me the same error..."Cannot connect shared path. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation."

Thanks!

Try connecting to the server's IP (\\10.10.10.1\sharename), and make sure your server (and Axim, for that matter) has the right gateway/subnet/etc. I can't say I know anything about Resco's products, but are you connecting to a hidden share like c$ and does Resco support that?

Also, you may want to double-check the ports you have open. I thought 445 was necessary as well. Check out this web page (http://www.petri.co.il/what's_port_445_in_w2k_xp_2003.htm), but if you're having problems with the firewall, I'd recommend disabling it for a bit to see if that's your problem (if that's an option).

Thanks Dougsnell. I tried the above and still had the same old problems. My subnet was the same and they both have the same gateway and DNS server. I reverted back to WM2003 SE and I can get into the shared directory with no problems. Another reason not to go to WM5! What a waste of $50 that upgrade was. Thanks for the reply!

Yah, wat a joy of WM5....I assume that you can connect to the server from other computers, right? Also, just a thought is to make sure that the server allows access to remote entries and "ppc specials" I'm sure that you probably know more than me....so please dont be offended ;)

I'm actually a bit curious if you disabled the firewall. I'd understand if you can't, but I'm kind of curious if anything is acting goofy with WM5 (goofy in the sense that it's different from WM2003SE).
