Activesync ghost server trick

Can someone please point me to the ActiveSync ghost server trick.
I have read somewhere that there is a work around for activesync for not starting automatically.

Also, can someone point me to the right steps to perform after I get my x51v. Do I need to install ActiveSync first before connecting the PDA? What about steps I need to take for performing ROM update.

Please point me to the thread as I have searched hard but could not get the correct thread.

Thanks,

ActiveSync Workaround by ChillyWinter

The above thread contains the ActiveSync to manual workaround by ChillyWinter.

1.Install ActiveSync on your Local Machine first(Dekstop PC/Laptop)
(get ActiveSync4.1 from Microsoft Website: Latest Version)
2.Then Charge your battery in your x51v for 8 hours before docking it to the cradle.
3.Perform a Hard Reset(Read the manual)
4.Download the ROM A04 update if you havent got it yet
5.Run the Program for A04 update. It will install the update program on your local machine(Desktop PC/laptop)on your local drive.
(Please follow instructions of the update program to the tee you cant go wrong).
6.You must have your AC plugged into your cradle throughout this process of updating.
(Note: do not interrupt the system when it is updating)
7.Once the update is complete. Follow instructions as recommended.
8.You should have successfully upgraded to A04 at this point.
9.Then use the above link and do the ActiveSync tweak in your X51v.

Its always best to follow the instructions provided by the software or instruction manuals once you receive your X51v.

Plus the Update Location(Dell Website)for the A04 Rom contains install instructions to get you started.

Good Luck and I hope I helped in some way. :)

Laro.

Thanks for all the information.
One more question -
Do we need to install the latest ActiveSync on our desktop before we connect the x51v? or do we connect the x51v and then install the ActiveSynch?

In Answering your question directly. ActiveSync First and then connecting X51v later. Just follow the below steps and you should be fine :)

Installing the latest would help(Id advise it). Download ActiveSync 4.1 from the Web
(Do a Google or Yahoo search for "Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1" and you should get a link to the download page)
.
Then proceed to download.

Follow the below steps after youve done this.

1.Install ActiveSync(get the latest and install it: Version 4.1)

2.Charge the X51v after putting in the battery provided by dell in the X51v. Charge it for 8 hours. Just let it charge for that period.

You can either charge it directly using the interface jack connected directly to your AC adapter

OR

You can use your cradle(Not hooked to the PC via USB yet!)with the AC adaptor plugged into it and your X51v sitting nicely on it.

3.Once youve charged it for 8 hours. Hook up the USB cable attached to the cradle into the Desktop/Laptop and place the X51v in the cradle if you havent yet.

4. Your Desktop/Laptop should immediately detect your X51v and so will ActiveSync.

Good luck from this point. :)

EDIT: Just look through the manual on how to charge the battery without connecting to the computer. Its quite clear and straight forward.
