When Dell releases a new version of firmware, they will release it to all areas, factory and service. That means that A05 will show up in the service downloads at the same time it is in the factories.

This is pretty much what I also e-mailed to dell customer services.

Before I ordered the Axim X51v, I telephoned customer support UK for reassurance before ordering, about the problems that were being reported on the various forums about the “not powering on with SD card inserted” and “battery draining overnight” issues, to name but a few, and the need to update to the latest Rom version. I was reassured that these were now, no longer a problem and that the Axims were now going out with the latest rom versions and not to worry.
I have now received my nice new X51v (28th)and am annoyed that I have to update the ROM already, as the one that is installed is the A01 version. I see that some issues are still being reported and that a new ROM image is to be released in January. Do I upgrade now or wait for the 05 version, if it exists.

And there reply was that, they could not help me via e-mail but gave me a number to ring. What are your thoughts on this?

Since Dell is still distributing A01 models (like mine) this simply means they consider it to be an adequate release.

I'm surprised someone hasn't extracted the Bluetooth stack from a HP device if its so good. Can't comment on it because I've not seen an HP in action.
Someone has, it just doesnt work ecause they are diff devices. Someone got it working for WM5, so I tried to install it and I now have no volume on my Axim.

But it's working now and I just now got BT Sync working.

My biggest problem of course seems to be battery life. I might have to break down and buy a bigger battery.

Get a replacement from dell for warranty. you shouldn't be having the problems you are having.

I telephoned dell 2 days ago and the service guy told me that the new update to fix all bugs will be released in the 1st week of january 2006. So here is hoping that this will be the case,

I've attached a JPG of my A05 screenshot for the non-believers. Why would anybody lie about getting A05? It didn't fix the turn on problem, anyway. I wound up turning off error reporting and now it works fine.

I got 'my' X51v mid December from Dell. Came with A01. Although it was a prezzy for the wife I can't stop playing with 'my' first pda. I've now had to order one for me. Should arrive circa 5 January. I'll see what it comes with.

p.s. I've managed to get internet using wi-fi but I can't get 'my' e-mails either wi-fi or through the cradle. Anybody got any useful suggestions to try. Regards

Thanks for the screenies. Do you face missing CF, power problems on your X51 with A05?

You know, I never had the CF/SD card issues that are posted elsewhere in the forums, but I still had the "power on" issue. I got on the phone with dell that day and after 3 hours I had them willing to give me an X50 with WM 2003 as a replacement, but they had to work on it. The next day, a tech called me back and asked me to turn off error reporting while they work on my replacement and see how the problems go. Amazingly, the unit turns on every time now. I can turn it off, leave it over night, and it will turn on the next day. So, I can't say whether the A05 fixes anything, since the error reporting change may have worked on A04.

As recommended in the thread "WM5 is here to stay.. in the page-1, link below;

"The 1st thing to do is disable MS error reporting; 2nd thing is to create a fake server for ActiveSync to address the AS wakes up frequently....and some few more Tips..."

BTW, I think the CF dissapearing is probably due to a program that opens the CF (File Explorer; Resco Explorer, etc) and stay active when you turn off the Axim; when the unit is back on, the CF might dissapear until a soft-reset. I am using a task switcher (e.g. Wisbar), which really close all the programs instead of minimizing them. I don't have that problem occuring...again that is my theorie, as always, YMMV...

Mbhale: I can exchange my perfect working X50v for your X51V anytime. Just PM me. It is WM5 but downgradable to WM2003SE.
