I would advise going through and following the tweaks in the sticky posts at the top of the forum. Because you have the x51v, I would also upgrade the ROM and see if that fixes some of the problems. I don't have an x51 so I have no idea what problems it fixes (if any). If you follow the tweaks in the sticky's and upgrade the ROM you should be in a much better state than you currently are.

Things you can do:
1.Download and install the A04 update
Dell A04 Update
2.Use the below link and follow the instructions
ActiveSync to Manual Tweak by Chillywinter(scroll down the thread its there)
3.Turn BlueTooth on whenever you are using your X51v. And leave it on when switching off the unit.
Try any and all of these tweaks.(Id to them all just to be on the safe side).

Me, I'd just return it to the manufacturer with a letter stating the goods were defective and seek compensation. At the same time I would send a copy of the letter to my local Consumer Protection Action Group and my Federal Consumer Protection Department.
As your not going to get a responsible reply or fix from the hardware manufacturer or software manufacturer until serious pressure is put on.
We went through similar with the WM2003 - WM2003SE saga and its happening again, unaccepatble.

Battery Drain
I think the best cure for Battery Drain is to program the Power Button to "Full Power Off".
Settings--> System Tab -->Power --> Power Button Tab --> Full Power Off
My Axim X51v will still take a charge but no surprise wake-ups to start anything running and cause drain!

Turning the device completely off means a lengthy waiting time on powering on which goes against the "instant on" philosophy of the pda. Imagine how dumb you'll look like when a client wants to schedule a meeting and you have to wait 3 minutes before even see the today's date.

I also power off my Axim, but at the end of the day. I would never walk into a client with my PDA off, but why leave it running 8-12 hours per day when not in use?

Agreed :) However I dont switch it off(full power off)if I need it regularly. As in the example you cited above.
I do however do a full power off when Im not using it for the next X hours(eg When I sleep, Or Im not using it for the next X hours scenario). Thats if you care about lowering the discharge rate of the battery during off-activity hours.
If you dont want to do that and want to "instant on" it all the time, its a personal choice I guess. Would be good to have a larger storage Batt,if thats the case though, or have spare batteries on hand.

I'm curious, and haven't tried, but if you do a full power off, will notifications still turn it on? It would make sense if it didn't, but on the other hand, it would make sense if it did, too.

If the power switch is set to "Full Power Off" per my previous posting it gives you the choices: (1) A light press of the button will not give you the full power off thus allowing for a quick restart. (2) Pressing and holding the button will cause a notification pop-up warning of a complete Power Off and asking for confirmation before it happens (almost idiot proof). But a much better situation than the drained battery surprise that most users are complaining about???

If you want to avoid the battery drain issue, remove the storage cards before putting your Axim to sleep. It works for me all the time.

Instant on with the x51v? What a joke. Even in standby mode, my axim takes about 30 seconds before I can use it without lag after resuming. This after I remove all Today plugins that slowed it down even more. There's no instant on with this thing, making it useless as a scheduling assistant.
