Umm, nope. WiFi works perfectly fine (and quite well too). What you did not do was follow the instructions that came with the software (on the half-sheet paper insert) for those who run WM5 - that is, go to Socket's website and download the new WM5-compatible version for free! FYI - going to Dell with any third-party software issues is always a mistake. Instead go right to the developer. Good luck! :approve:

I saw the note and tossed the disc. I only used the website.
I contacted Socket Tech support and recieved a on sentence email reply to the extent of 'our software good'.
since hard reseting and being without companion, I have WiFi, so I can only assume it had to do with Companion.
The only other software I've added had been games, magicbutton, theme switcher, and todaywarrior

My WiFi Companion (Purchased from Dell with the x51v - Had a Notice Paper with it - stating not to install from CDROM - but to D/L from their web site, and install that version.
Maybe you missed the notice?
(Or maybe yours did not have the notice with it)
Not any way to check now - my x51v was so bad I had to return it.

I have been using WiFi Companion for more than 2 months already without any kind of problem. Just be sure that you have installed the WM5 version of it.

Not exactly the spirit of my response... However, Socket's Wi-Fi works very well on the X51v. If you indeed used the download, followed the prompts, and properly activated the software, I can only assume you then had a bad installation (it happens). Try reinstalling via the CAB file. I personally did mine this way and no issues right out of the gate. We currently have a total of four dozen X51/X51v Axims with WM5 and ROM A04 in our corporate trial and all have Wi-Fi Companion. None have presented any problems with it... Now BT communication is a whole different matter.

Sorry but WiFi Companion works perfectly on my X51v and has from day one. I installed the correct drivers from the Socket Web site and everything is great .. A SUPER piece of software and most likely the one I would not do without.

Well, until just now I too would have disagreed with Slated, Wifi Companion has worked no probs since I got it.
I have a X51 mid, and today upgraded from ROM 01 to 05. After a hard reset and re-installing from the Socket website (with wm05 version), initially (1st try) it worked fine, however now it doesn't. When I start wifi companion it says, "One or more components of WLAN tools were not found, or there are too few resources available to start the program. Please verify proper installation of WLAN tools and try again"
I tried a soft reset (back to 35MB+RAM) and same thing. When I try to ping anything using wifi ping, it just drops back to the program page.
Any ideas or similar experiences?

have you tried to reinstall the program?
I'm using Socket Companion since I got the X51v and I preordered it so I got it the first same day that it was released to the market. I never had any problem with this program at all.

No, please tell us how you are able to get 35+ MB free ram on your device. Even after a hard reset + some startup hacks (that do help!) I can only get 32ish meg free.
