No problems yet, but thanks for the heads up.

Don't know, but fresh install of ROM 05 and not too many programs (Resco trials, WIFI companion, skpe, Adobe, ewallet trial) get 37MB after soft reset.

As you can see from the screen capture, I did get wifi companion working fine, but bugger me if I can remember how I did it!! Maybe a re-install did the job.

All in all (back on topic) Wifi companion works 100% perfectly with WM5.

This is why this topic should have had a different tittle. Instead of Attention X51v users* Do Not Install WiFi Companion it should have been named is anybody having problem with WiFi Companion

Always research first if your problem is an individual problem or if it's something general, and then Post the result of your investigation ;)

I still don't know how is that you are getting that amount. What I noticed now is that with the A01 ROM and the A04 ROM my memory after a soft reset I had around 24 MB of RAM and with the A06 I have 27. But from 25 to 37 is a big jump.

I've also had wifi companion on my x51v with ROM A06 from the start and it works great. Ive had no problems what so ever. I did install .NET CF 2.0 directly after I upgraded my ROM however and things seem to work a little better than the first time I did it (yes I too had a few nightmares with the ROM update when I first installed it).

I'm using wifi companion (version 2.6.0.0) on my x51 with ROM A05 with no problems at all. Was also using it with ROM A04 and A01 without any issues.

You made an assumption, really without definitive proof, that WiFi Companion was the sole cause of your WiFi problems and wrote a 'shock value' subject headline. Furthermore, I have yet to see any 'Me too' posts in this thread where someone said that the same thing had happened to them.

Maybe next time try asking a question on the forum such as, "Has anyone else had problems with WiFi Companion?" if you don't want to be sniped at.

For the record, I've been running WiFi Companion on my x51v for at least two months under both A01 and A04 and the app has so far worked flawlessly.

Well I read this thread and installed WiFi companion anyway. As soon as I installed it my wifi stopped working all together. Im running WM5 A06 and followed all instructions correctly.

Tried everything (well almost everything...see below) to get it working. Fired off an email to Sockets.

I eventually found what the problem was.. and I was a bonehead.

Turns out when you install Wifi Companion it turns off your wifi in the Dell WLAN Utility.

Needless to say I hit the box to turn WLAN back on and everything works as intended.
