* Attention X51v users* Do Not Install WiFi Companion

I just spent the last 2 hours on the phone with Dell

My WiFi worked the day I got it, but quit after I installed the Companion software.

They said that it was great for the older models, but not the latest. After a hard reset and a few adjustments, I'm back up and running, and they immediately refunded me for the Companion software.

Hopefully this will save some people from the headache I've been going through for the past week.

Thanks for the update :) I was seriously contemplating getting it for my X51v.

Thanks again.

I've had WiFi Companion on my X51v since I first received it and have had no problems that I know of but... I may take it off just to see if it makes any differance! :rolling:

That's odd, my WiFi seems to work better w/ WiFi Companion (keeping weak network signal connnected). I purchased it after I recieved my X51v and downloaded it driectly from socketcom. Perhaps I enjoy the simplicity of that application. Now that I am a bit more Windows Mobile savy I may try removing it to compare.

I am also running A04 from dell and I have had minimal issues with my axim, all issues thus far have been my fault.

wi-fi companion does an excellent job on wm 5.0 and x51v

mhhh, my guess is your doing something wrong. i've been using wi-fi companion now for a month on a daily base on my x51v and can only tell you that i haven't had 1 problem with it except that it will sometimes show channel 6 as being active instead of channel 11. i highly recommend wi-fi companion on wm 5.0. no problems here whatsoever.

x51v A04
wi-fi companion 2.6.0.0

I've heard the same thing about it causing problems. I doubt he is doing something "wrong".

It's probably like me, I have had none of the problems with WM5, while others have reported nothing but. Same thing, different software.

I have an Axim x51v A01 ROM and Wifi companion works perfectly. It speeds up connections a bit and somehow does keep weak signals better.

Strange thread.
I had wifi companion on my ipaq 5455 for ages and recently installed the latest version on my X51v without a hitch. although I have noticed that the built in wifi app will show hidden (not broadcasetd ssid's whereas wifi companion wont.

:-(

It sounds like you installed an earlier version of Companion wich is NOT WM5 compatable, because i have zero peoblems with mine. I can connect to other wi-fi all the time.

There's also the possibility that it could be butting heads with another program. What other software did you install that might connect to the internet?
