Flight Mode?

Does anyone know what flight mode is in the wireless settings? What does it do?

It's exactly what it says it is. When Flight Mode is turned on, all wireless activity is shut off. If you've every flown in a plane, they tell you to shut down all electronics so they don't get interferance while taking off. When Flight Mode is turned off, then wireless is enabled again. Hope that helps.

So does it essentially do the same thing as the hardware button on the side of the Axim?

To answer your question, it appears that the only difference between enabling/disabling flight mode compared to using the hardware button is that with the hardware button, it prompts you to press a second time to confirm. No such confirmation prompt is given when enabling/disabling flight mode.

I just noticed something interesting when playing around with both of these switches. Regardless of which switch is used (side button or flight mode), whether bluetooth, wifi or both is enabled seems to depends on your last manual activity (i.e. going into either the bluetooth or wifi dialogues and manually turning either one on or off). For example, if you manually turn on only BT, then when you select either of the other switches (side button or flight mode), then it will turn off BT and leave WiFi alone. The next time you select one of the same switches, it will turn BT back on and again leave wifi alone. The opposite happens if you manually turn on wifi only. On the other hand, if you manually turn on both BT and wifi, then use either of the other switches, it will turn both off, then turn both back on next time. Has anyone else ever noticed this apparent relationship between dialog switches and button or flight mode switches?

Yep, that's how it's supposed to work. It assumes you are going to use the same flavor of wireless next time you use it.

My X51v asks me to press the button again within 5 seconds to confirm the action, both when enabling or disabling the wireless.

Yes, that's what I was saying - whenever you press the button - whether to enable or disable, it prompts you to press again for confirmation. However, when turning on or off flight mode, it does not prompt for any confirmation. The point was that this is the primary difference between pressing the wireless button and turning on or off flight mode.
