x50 -- No suitable image found
I have a x50.
Followed instructions and downloaded Mobile 2003 Rev A05.
>>X50 Windows Mobile 2003 Revision A05 Englisch
>>http://www.rapidsharing.com/27641c5...eaa750911e67214

Copied to FAT32 SD Card:
DiMa_B_A05_X50_WM2k3_ENG.nb0 (Size: 34,560 KB)
DiMa_B_A05_X50_WM2k3_ENG_nb0.crc (7e9bc4a1)
DiMa_K_A05_X50_WM2k3_ENG.nb0 (Size: 256 KB)
DiMa_K_A05_X50_WM2k3_ENG_nb0.crc (686a7869)

Pressed wireless+power+reset

The screen displayed... "SD Image Update A01"
I then get this error message.... "No suitable image found"

Has anyone run into this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

domme:Thank You for answers.
Maybe there is a way to get all stream which dell software is sending to pda in time of flashing? In that way we can get all the clean bios, but i don't know if it's possible

2. Copy the Windows Mobile 5 Bootloader and the corresponding CRC File to a FAT32 formatted SD-Card (Valid Filename for example DiMa_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0)
3. Insert the SD-Card into your Axim and start the SD Image Loader by Pressing Wireless + Power + Reset
4. The Image Loader will search for flash images on your SD-Card, as there is still the Windows Mobile 2003 Bootloader on your device it will only look for files beginning with "DiMa" and therefore will only display the bootloader image.
5. Press the action key twice, this starts the update process. DANGER: If this process fails your device will be a 300$ paperweight...
6. After the process is finished (takes only a few seconds) you will be asked to hard reset your system. Ignore this message and press Wireless + Power + Reset again.
7. The Image Loader will search for flash images on your SD-Card, as there is now the Windows Mobile 5 Bootloader on your device it will only look for files beginning with "WM50" and therefore will only display the OS image.
8. Press the action key twice, this starts the update process.
9. After the process is finished you will be asked to hard reset your device. Follow this instruction and wait for the OS to load. That's all.
Dear sir,

I would like to thank you for the great effort done to reach this stage…

I was trying to use the wm5 image on wm2003 but unfortunately I ended with dead pda.

I have reached step 6 successfully, but once I pressed Wireless + Power + Reset Nothing appears on the screen ... it remains blank with the power light off....

Please note that I had tough time trying to get the boot loader screen by pressing Wireless + Power + Rest I always got the hard rest screen. I tried almost 30 times till I got the screen. But now after reaching step 6, even if press hard rest or Wireless + Power + Reset nothing appears ( the device remain power off)

Any suggestion please.

Thanks and Best Regards

Thanks biovirus for your replay .... I would like to add that I have tried the (record + power) but still nothing happen.... is it okay that the PDA doesn’t power up at all after step number 5!!! .... the device shows nothing if tried to power-it on...

By the way I am sure about the PDA is unlocked..

About the battery: I have charged it to full last night, (1800mah Mogan battery) and used the device only to do this process. (Not more than 20min of use)

Thanks and Best Regards

Yes, it is normal that the device will not do anything, because of the wrong OS.

If the bootloader was flashed correctly the device will definitely come back to the SD Image Loader.
Perhaps a button on your device is not working correctly?

Thanks for replaing to my post domme

I would like to let you know that I have did just what was written from step 1 to step 5 without any errors, downloaded the X50v Windows Mobile 5 Revision A01 Englisch file and changed the boot load file names and folloed the rest of the instructions … but ended with a blank screen...

I had no problem before with the buttons … the wireless alone works fine the power + rest buttons were working fine …

Any idea where to start

The only thing I noticed, if I insert it in the cradle with power connected it will start charging

Thanks again for your great effort.

Its not "record + power" - its POWER + RECORD + RESET. In that order. Try it many times with different timings.
It took me half an hour to find the right timing. Mine was 100% dead - as dead as a brick, right after step 5, so its exactly what happened to you.

Thank Domme, its his knowledge that saved my Axim. I was sitting with my X50v dead brick like you, without knowing what to do (it was o, so-ooo dead!) and then he posted that Power+record+reset....

Thanks for all of you … Domme & Biovirus

I finally got my PDA to work with wm2005

It was my fault ( I saw the PDA doesn’t start and I panic)

The steps are very clear, thanks a lot Domme for giving us the chance to try wm2005 on our PDA.

It seams the wm2005 runs much better/faster than the wm2003, I need to do more testing.

Thanks again for the great help

WM 5.0 on Axim X5??
Hi Aximers, Can someone tell me whether it is possible in any way to upload WM5.0 to a X5 model, which contains currently WM2003. I have bought the install cd's from Dell thinking that I could upgrade to a new OS like any pc, silly me...

When I was reading this thread I was thinking to myself, what if I can change the bootloader to WM5.0? and then upgrade to WM5.0? Would this be possible in any way?? Thanks to anyone that can give me an answer.

To Flash the X5 model, the key combination should be power+Scroll button+Calendar button+ Reset, this however only works once per 100 tries. It must be something in the sequence that the buttons are pressed, or all exactly at the same time, which is very hard to do. If anyone has the answer to this, please reply...

Thanks in advance,
a frustrated Axim5 user... Skinny

I'm willing to send the original WM5.0 files from Dell for X50 and X50v to anyone that can help me.

I do not think that this will be possible, sorry.
The OS image has to be be built EXACTLY for your device, even Images of the X51v will most probably not work on the X50v because they are different.

The X50 and the X5 even have more differences than the new X5x series, I mean you could try flashing your device from SD Card wit the X50 WM5 Image, but most probable you will result in a completely dead device.

BTW, you've got a PM ;-)

There is no solution for the X51 series yet as there is no tool available for dumping the ROM of these devices...
