I have English and German ROM's to install on PDA from dell site - I tried to compare headers of both versions, and looks (at some places) similar. I think, we can change it somehow to write English/German firmware on different language:

Combination that works flawlessly

For me there's 1 way that the combination allways works:
Press wireless+power for 3 seconds and then, keeping those pressed, "tap" reset and keep wireless+power pressed until you get to the image update screen. In other words, never let go wireless+power until you get to that screen and just tap on reset...Hope this helps

I would like to use this technique to install ROM A04 on my x50v, I have A05 but want to downgrade. Can anyone point me to the correct ROM file to put on my SD? I tried using the one in the normal Dell A04 upgrade, but it didn't work.

Anyone with success on x50?

Has anyone tried this successfully on an x50?

If you were successfull, can you post the images you used?

I tried
>>X50 Windows Mobile 2003 Revision A05 Englisch
>>http://www.rapidsharing.com/27641c5...eaa750911e67214

And got the error message.... "No suitable image found"

Try copying the files to the SD card again (maybe using another card reader). I also had this once and recopying did the trick

reflash supplementary info

I didn't read all the posts before this. I ran into some issue understanding the reflash instructions trying to revive my X50v that got stuck at 80% rebooting. I would like to add the following that may or may not be obvious to others (or may have been said before):
- If you only want to reload the WM5 OS image, then you only need to copy the files WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0 and WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0.crc into the SD card. Then press Wireless + power + reset
- The way that works for me is: I press and hold wireless + power, then while holding the two buttons, press and release reset quickly.
- The "action" key is the middle button that is in the center of the 4 way navigational button.
I hope this helps

Of course you are only allowed to use the image if you legally paid for it!

Certainly. As a sheepish consumer that happily tolerates all the bugs and who had to update the system software 6 times after I bought it from DELL for almost $600 after tax money, I feel that a chance to test an already buggy new system software before buying it a huge moral sin.

Figured since I was trying this method out I would give my 2 cents on how it went for me. First I have a hardware rev A01 x50v so that might have an effect. I first updated the boot loader during which I had no problems. After that though it would not turn on, load to any diagnostics, or load to the SD image loader. I tried a few things to no effect but then for some reason (still not sure why I even tried this ) but I put the Axim on the cradle without a battery in the unit at the time it did not even have the battery cover on the unit. Then suddenly wireless-power-reset worked. Update went fine :approve: and I reset the unit then put the battery in and the cover on and its working great.

I consider this a last resort but if you have problems with your Axim during this update and are unable to get to the SD image loader you might try to put your axim on the cradle with no battery or battery cover then attempt the update. There are possible problems with this so only do it as a last resort if the power goes out or the unit loses power during this process you might brick your Axim (although this should only brick it if your updating the boot loader but don't risk it if you don't have to).

Hi

does anyone has a German WM5 or WM2003 A2 ROM File for SD Image loader? I have a Axim x50v. I can't dump my own wm5 because my pda isn't starting anymore. It hangs while 80-90% of loading.

I hope anyone can help me.

Thanks,

I need X50v WM5 ROM to save my dying axim, but RapidSharing seems to have problem recently... is there any other sites that host the ROMs, or I could get the ROM from the Upgrade CD > ROM folder? (however the files have .IMG extensions)

Also I understand that flashing the bootup loader will have risk to spoil the device.. but how about flashing the OS only (for my case)? Is there any 'second chance' if the first attempt failed?
