You may also want to try using a different SD card. I had a similar problem and changing the SD card resolved it. Also check the naming of the files, because you should at least see them appear.

I tried 4 different SD cards, same result. As for the naming conventions, I used the files that Domme posted without any changes. These are the files I copied to the SD card, WM50_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0 , WM50_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc , WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0 , WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc .

Thanks for the new file links. All seemed to go well, but after doing the ROM update AXIM now seems to be stuck doing an Erasing storage function which it has been performing for about 30 mins now and hardly advanced at all. Is this normal and if so how long should it take?

Add me to the list of happy people who have fixed their dead x50v's from this website. Brilliant, I had to buy a card reader especially but it was well worth it.
1st go froze at the end doing a wiping or cleaning task, but I just rebooted ran it again and now it all works great. No more freezing at 80% boot.

Try the "Wireless + Power + Reset" combo to get it back. It's tricky here because you won't know when you've got it back until the bootloader screen comes up. There will be no intermediary screens or indications. It make take you a little as a few tries to as many as 30 tries. But I had a similiar situation when I thought I "bricked" the Axim.

Also, make sure you named the files correctly and that the SD card was formatted FAT32.

The best bet is go back to the WM2k3 bootloader. (copy the DiMa_B_A05... file to the SD card). Then try this process again.
I tried this and the axim still will not turn on. Is it bricked?

Might very well be. Sorry.

Did you recopy the bootloader to the SD card (using a PC card reader)?
Did you make sure the SD card was formatted in FAT32 and not FAT16?
Did you extract and reinsert the SD card?
Did you retry different combinations of the Wireless+Power+reset? It can take many tries before the bootloader screen comes up.

For instance, hold power+Reset down then while they are still depressed, depress wireless, then let then all go simultaneously. OR reset+Wireless depressed then depress power then let them all go.

My favorite is the 1st method because I can hold power+wireless while holding the axim with both hands, all the while placing the stylus in the reset hole underneath the unit and just push the unit down against the stylus to depress the reset.

Guys I also thought I bricked my X50V after flashing the WM5 bootloader over WM2003. The bootloader flash went fine. Then I tried the Power+Wireless+Reset and x50v turned black. It would not turn on at all. After about 2 hrs and more then 100 tries without success, I took out my other x50 and decided to find a better way to get the SD flash screen.

I have found out a consistent way to get into the SD card flash.

Here is how. Press POWER + WIRELESS, then tap the RESET twice and keep the other two buttons pressed.

Sorry if this been posted already.

My x50v is a brick now too. I downloaded the files above, and they appeared to load, but I still can't get a hard reset to bring it back to life.

Are there any other links to files that might work?

It died when I was doing to WM5 update that recently came out. I don't think I did anything wrong, but who knows.

Please help if you can!

Thank you,

Todd

What did you do exactly? What filesdid you use? Did you had wm2003se or wm5 on it?

Can you get to SD image loader screen by press and hold power + wireless then tap reset twice quickly. Keep holding power + wireless until you see the loader.

Also check the battery door lock and the lock switch by the wireless button.
