I have the both the ROM and the Bootloader files on my computer. No need to create it yourself.

I am uploading it right now. I hope Rapidshare is ok for you.

Axim X50 WM2003 A05

Hello and thanks for any help.

I am wanting to upgrade my axim to windows mobile 5 or 6, I have read through the forums and have heard of alot of pda's being bricked by inccorect installation. So I want to be very careful.

I understand that going from WM2003 to 5/6 will require a bootloader upgrade.

And then the proper rom image for which ever WM I decide to go with.

I am just confused about which files I will need since there are so many dead links and links for other axim revisions.

My Axim Specs

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14260.2.05)

Model Dell Axim X50
Processor type Intel PXA270
Processor Speed MHz
RAM Size 64 MB
Rom Size 128 MG
ROM Version A05 (07270500)
ect....

I am pretty sure that covers the pertinent information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya,
When you upgrade from Dell's WM2003 to WM5, you need an upgrade disk.

From what I've heard, WM5 on the x50 is not really recommended due the instability.

Take a look at this thread for starters.

If you really want to upgrade but you do not have the disk, PM Steven. He will provide you with the disk files. I misplaced mine .

As for WM6, there is a recent ROM that mag_lite produced. But it is in extreme early stage (I think alpha) and is extremely unstable. It looks like a "suicide ROM"
Here the link (I strongly do NOT recommended flashing it after WM5): here

Even though it appears he has not posted in some time, I want to thank Domme for starting this thread.

And I want to especially thank John for his recent suggestions and file information.

I am thanking them because yesterday I "bricked" my x50V. Tried some tricks to load newer versions of WM, and ended up with a PDA that wouldn't start. After reading this thread, following the instructions, and using the files suggested, I now have my Axim up and running again with 2003SE.

Thanks again for the help!
