I think the most promising dump util for the X51 series is testdump from XDA Developers

In the "Path to file" enter the complete path and filename of a dump, in the "Mbytes to dump" enter the size of your ROM
|
Edit/Update: This dump doesn't appear to capture the boot loader.

Tried to flash X50V with WM5.
Step 5 was finished successflly, the system asked for reset, following the instructions I pressed wifi+power+reset... and nothing.. Never came up again.... its dead. Any suggestions?
I have another identical X50v with 2003 SE A05 if that can help...
Alex.

What about EnterBootLoader.exe?
When You are using it on palmtop - palmtop goes into boot loader mode, and tries to get contact with computer - what sort of connection is it?
I thougth it's sth like tftp, but i don't know how to run tftp server on usb

Here's the latest update on my X51v progress
- grabit.exe - Dump created but is corrupted, repeats , 128mb and 256mb version tried http://www.hjgode.de/dev/grabit/.
- testdump.exe - rom dump ok, but appears to start at the os level and does not include the bootloader
- osloader-1.5.6.exe - errors messages when the utility is run. No useful dumps created.
Does anyone have any other ideas to get a dump of the device, including the bootloader? Other than that I suppose the next step is to have a look at the grabit and testdump source to see if a fix can be applied.

Your battery is charged and the lock switch off? ;-)
If the update of the bootloader was successful the SD Image Loader will definitely still work. Of course the Axim will not boot up normally because it stil has the WM2k3 OS on it but the WM5 bootloader.
Press Wifi+Power, keep them pressed and then shortly press Reset while still holding the other two buttons this should bring you back into the SD Image Loader

Yeah, I have already tried this using mtty to get a connection...Unlike the iPaqs or HTC Smartphones the Axim's bootloader does only seem to accept the upload of new flash images but not the download of the one currently installed.

domme: but that can help in my case maybe:) I downloaded ROM from dell website, and now i'd like to flash my axim - i have german rom, and i'd like to have english axim (x51v).
About downloading rom from tool - I tried to download rom with testdump, but first lines are almost empty (as You said - it's not bootloader in it)

Domme -
Thank you for writing - yes the battery is full and the lock is off (I had that 6 months ago, I know what you are talking about) and still - dead screen. The step 5 was successful - otherwise I wouldn't get the screen telling me to do the hard reset, right?
I was trying to get to the SD image loader for about 2-3 hundred times now, without success. is there anything else? The sysytem never shows ANY signs of life - not a blink, not a squeak... Its very strange...
Again - I have another X50v which is working - can I use it to reflash the bad ROM from the dead one?
Or may be there is a service that can do that?
Thanks a million for your help.
Alex.

I do not think that this will work (and I will not try it...too much risk of killing my device..) as I think the images for the dell flash loader seem to be encrypted...

Very strange...never experienced this...if the SD Image Loader does not show up there is no way of doing any further flash.
Normally if the bootloader was written correctly the device will always come up with the SD Image Loader when pressing the correct keys...
By the way: does Diagnostic Mode work (Pressing Power+Record+Reset)?

I think I may have turned my x50v into a paperweight... I was flashing it using the prescribed procedure and the files downloaded from the first post. After it said it was done updating the bootloader I did the WiFi-Power-Reset again, but nothing happened; blank screen. Now it will not respond to anything. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks - CalDude

Success! I was able to put the system into the Diagnostic mode (first time I saw it alive in three days!) then escaped from it, and with the next try was able to enter the SD reading mode.
I guess the Diagnostic Mode cleared some stupid bit somwhere!
Also I noticed that the battery I was using with that system was completely drained. May be it was sitting in the SD reading mode all that time but with the screen off?
Where can I find the info about all these button combination?
I never heard of Diagnostic Mode before... Are there others?
Anyway, all went well and now I have WM5 on something that was completely dead (TOTALLY!) for three days.
Thanks, Domme.
Alex.

It looks like my problem is the exact same as Bio's... I too was able to get it into diagnostic mode, once... I went through the diagnostic and then was back where I started , only now I'm having trouble entering Diagnostic Mode again. But at least now I have some hope
