Let stay at WM2003SE .... I upgraded to WM2005.... It was very good... But 1 day later... It couldnt turn on and then notice "Have error on memory..."... Hope Dell wiil launch A02
Got the freebie, installed it, ran it for about 2 weeks and then rolled back. My issues were 'tolerable' UNTIL the unit couldn't see the CF card. Figured I'ld better wait till they work it out.
Since rolling back my only issue has been memory usage.
I installed WM5 the second it came in the mail. It ran so so on my x50v. I am much happier back in 2003. I will upgrade again once some of the bugs are ironed out.
Why fix something that isn't broken? WM5 doesn't add anything significant to my x50v. It does what I want it to do now. If I upgrade, I'll just be adding additional problems I don't need.
WM5 isn't a fix, so it doesn't really fit that statement.
Depending on how you use your Axim, WM5 can represent a very significant increase in functionality. Mobile Word and Excel have had MAJOR improvements, and the new Powerpoint viewer is very useful. I have had to roll back to WM2003, and I'm missing the features of Mobile Word especially (tables, graphics, etc.).
I installed WM5 a week after I recieved it. Then I found this site when I thought I broke my X50 and was trying to figure out how to fix what I did. I would not have installed WM5 if I had found this site first. That said, I've stuck with WM5 (I paid for it) and I'm trying to work with it, although my BT GPS doesn't work with some programs. Most problems were early on. I had to hard reset 2 or 3 times the first week or two (installed mid-November). Since then only 2 hard resets, also learned the importance of backup to CF card. For some reason, each hard reset seems to have improved performance some, don't know why. Activesync only works when I disable my virus scan software.
Despite starting to have less problems, I have been starting to think about rolling back to WM2003SE to get my BT GPS working good again. My GPS were my most used programs. Maybe the "patch" or "fix" will occur before I rollback.
After what all I've read about WM5, I decided NOT to upgrade either. My x50v works just fine, and I don't need to 'upgrade' to WM5 just to have the latest and greatest out there. If, and when they get WM5 and all the bugs worked out, I may upgrade to whatever new Dell unit they have out at that time. Until then, I'm staying with my current setup.
you know something...I tried to hold off from going back for a while now. I've had wm5.0 installed and running up till today. I did not have any problems with BT at all. Matter of fact I've received more success with wm 5.0 then 2003. I just "finally" got tired of the speed and battery management problems. I guess I'm with jeadstx "I've stuck with WM5 (I paid for it) and I'm trying to work with it". This is the first time that i've had to back up my ppc religously since i've had 5.0 installed do to the fear that I may loose data that i've updated. I need a little bit more stability to stick with this piece of crap. This is the kind of stuff that made me abandon Toshiba (e740).
COME ON DELL!! MAKE A BELIEVER OUT OF ME!! IS THIS TO MUCH TO ASK!!!
Stuck w/ WM 5.0 as long as I could tolerate for about a week before going back to 2003SE. I can tell you that I would be way more angry if I had not gotten the upgrade CD for free. I almost feel like I wasted my time trying to get it as it was not originally part of my purchase. I missed the upgrade deal by about 3 days and convinced them to give it to me anyways....
Well, Yesterday I downgraded after 2 months of WM5.
I was waiting for the 3rd reset of the day because the CPU was stick at 624Mhz, and I was wondering why I was on WM5.
There is simply no adventage beside the persistent memory, but I never run out of battery and running everything on Rom make everything slow.
I downgraded, reinstalled all my old software (many that didn't work with the upgrade) and I'm happy like the fist day I got the PDA. It's much faster and stable. The only good thing about WM5, is the speed of Wifi connection.
So Until Dell provide an update (and I really don't think they will) I will stick with WM2003Se.
I got the CD for Free. The thing is I have a product at work that runs on I.E. in WM5, but not WM2003SE. We have a function the opens a file browser that doesn't show up in I.E. on WM2003SE. It works with Netfront 3.2 go figure, our programmers must be real lazy, and we won't tell the clients to get Netfront.
Lately I've been getting the battery drain issue. I want to roll back, but I'm hoping a fix will be released. I'm sure the second I do roll back, the patch will finally come out.

I had the WM 5.0 upgrade for about a month but it was very slow and eventually it bricked my x50v. I just got my replacement unit from Dell last nite with WM2003 installed, and the speed of it is so refreshing. It also took me back to my nightmare of a PDA (Toshiba e740). To this day I still will not even consider a Toshiba product to purchase.
I mostly use the Pocket Office/Office Mobile apps anyway, and wanted WM5 for Powerpoint (although IA Presenter did the job ok I guess).
The only issues i've had are minor annoyances: Filesys and Activesync.
I could use the updated BT stack though, so I can get some A2DP headphones.
I've not hit anything that's made me pine for a rollback though.
N.B. Don't mistake me for a satisfied WM5 user though. I'm happy with what I'm doing now, but I want to be able to do more, and I don't want WM5 to hold me back!
There is no vote category for what I did. I bought the WM5 upgrade and received it, but never installed it after reading the horror stories on Aximsite. Still waiting for a ROM upgrade and positive reports before I attempt. Although I'd like to do the upgrade to get the more powerful Pocket Word, Excel and PowerPoint viewer, I don't NEED them, and the reported headaches don't seem worth what I'd get in the form of improvements. I continue to wait...
