I rolled back last week. I really wanted to stick with it, but the battery drain finally changed my mind. If they patch it, I'll give it another day in court. Otherwise I guess I'll wait for the next different model to go WM5 or look into the HPs.
I bought the upgrade, but am still running 2003se/A03. X50v runs great with this combo, so I have no intention of using the WM5 CD. I guess I'm out $40!

My opinion - keep the disks. You will eventually want them, and get your money's worth.
Wait for an update. I believe that when they get WM5 on the x51 right, they will release the same update for the x50.

When Dell releases a patch it will be plastered all over this forum. You'll know, believe me. :approve:

I'm in the same boat. I was really disenchanted with WM5 until I tried those registry hacks. Now my system just screams along, much faster than WM2003. No crashes at all. Soft resets are faster, wireless connection comes up faster and is more stable (under WM2003 I'd lose connection for no reason), browsing is significantly faster.
There are only 2 things that really bug me about WM5. First, out of 64MB RAM, only 30MB is available for use...
I bought my x50v with WM5 installed off ebay (also got the WM5 upgrade disk) and ran it for about 2 weeks before rolling back to WM2003SE.
I really like a lot of what WM5 offered although like rcacace I found the amount of RAM available disappointing. In my case the filesys problem and really (really :rolling: )slow resets (up to 2 minutes!)led me to giving WM2003SE a try. So far I have been back for about a week and having no real issues.
That said I can already feel WM5 calling me again and will probably give it another go this weekend.
Really hope Dell comes up with an update, but I for one am not going to hold my breath. I have had too many devices left on the shelf in terms of upgrades/updates by OEMs to actually expect an update from Dell.

Had issues w/ WM2003SE and have issues w/ WM5. Have had 5 replacements X50v's and chosen to keep original with each replacement option. As I can no longer use X50V as business tool, my Axim is largely unused until OS resolutions/upgrade. I am thinking about asking Dell for X51V or refund as #6 replacement is on the way. Unit is still under warranty. Would sell it in a heartbeat but buy what???
This totally baffles me as was a Palm user for many years with minimal issues not critical usability issues with MSOFT OS. Very frustrated.

I've done some software development in my day and what frustrates me is they release garbage, half tested software. Where is the quality control? This would never be tolerated as serious enterprise level software, never mind "for profit" which I believe should be at a higher level of quality as potentially used globally and in unknown industries. I love some of the features of the OS/X50V but come on ppl. I'm not asking for perfect software but there are issues still outstanding for over a year now. And IMHO, WM5 should NEVER have been released in its current state. BLECH!

I have had the upgrade disk for months, but Hurricane Katrina and the clean-up have delayed my install. My only reason for wanting the upgrade was the "loss of data" protection with a dead battery. It was my understanding the Axim would act like a flash memory card, not losing data in the absence of power, if WM5 was in use. Am I mistaken?
I have upgraded my x50v TWICE to WM5...yes I am a glutton for punishment.
Both times I thought to myself: "self, how bad can it be?".
Both times I actually stuck with it for a couple weeks, thinking to myself: "self, sure it locks up several times a day..and sure it is slow as moloassas, but it is the latest and greatest, right?".
And both times I downgraded back to WM2003SE, saying to myself: "self, you are an idiot (twice), WM5 blows monkey sphincters".
And that is how it was

Mikey doesn't like it! I tried it myself, rolled on back to 2003se. I'm just waiting for the day the updates come out from Dell. Like Super Dave said, I cannot believe this OS even made it out of the compound! Used to be a bug was an "undocumented feature".
