I used Resco Registry Editor to delete these keys. Even after soft reset, they never came back...and I am still pleased with the performance...so far.

The filesys.exe file is well protected. I tried writing a little applet to patch the code on-the-fly, but I couldn't get it to work. The original code was still there after the patch.

Wow I can confirm this!

Deleted these values and they do not come back after a soft reset and the system is noticably faster we are really on to something here!

Here is a picture of the keys to delete:

Ps. If your CompatcionCritPrio value doesnt match mine dont worry, I changed mine...

i discover something insteresting about DELET some registry values ... it's just that we have to wait a little before soft reset ... when i use resco explorer to tweak the registry i FILE-EXIT first and wait a little (about 1 or 2 minutes) before soft reset
if do not do this the registry values come back after a soft reset

Hello, can you tell me how you flash the patch into the OS? Thank you so much for helping. ALso, try installing some programs into the main memory and see if the system suddenly become sluggish afterwards.

Hmmzzz...

So what is a better solution?

1) To delete both keys away
2) To change them to 255

Anyone?

I ran yesterday with both set to 255. Filesys kiked in about 5-6 times throughout the day from what I could tell. Only lost 2% of battery overnight while off the charger. When I started up this morning it prompyly kicked in and sucked 6-10% of the battery in 4 minutes. Need some comments from those who deleted both to see what they are expirencing.

Deleting them is the only solution, changing their values doesnt seem to do any noticable diffrence in performance while deleting makes the device noticable faster, I'd say atleast 50% faster in opening applications such a pocket informant or wisbar advance.

The reason the other devices don't have the the filesys.exe could be due to a different type of ROM being used in the PDA. Someone said that one of the differences between the X50v and X51v is the use of different memory and thats what stopped them from using the same ROM image.

That's right. The X50 series use NOR 'ROM' while the X51 uses NAND. Interestingly the X50 series NOR package allows XIP (eXecute In Place) which means that built in apps can (if the OEM allows it) execute directly from ROM without being copied to RAM first so in some cases the X50 could be inherently faster and less RAM hungry than the X51.

Sounds like we're on to something here!

Could Dell intentionally have crippled the WM5 rom for the X50 series so that it wouldn't be faster than the X51 series with it's cheaper NAND ROM?
