so theoreticaly, putting aside all copyright laws ;) you could put windows95rom on your axim if you managed to get ahold of it? (though it would be making tons of invalid system calls)

Follow the instructions EXACTLY as stated and it will work. I just used this for an older ROM image on my X50v and it worked perfectly. I've attached a slight re-write of the instructions with some additional comments on CRC calc as a couple of steps were a little vague.

befor i saw your message i got the problem...i reflashed the os to that x50(not v) upgraded
2 wm5. it didnt solve my problem,the device is still halted on 80% boot.maybe theres a difference between x50 416&520 in the os?(i believe so,in dell's disk there r 3 img files x50a x50b &x50v...maybe thats the problem...)

im trying again...let me understand something...if u want 2 change OS version,u need 2 install first (lets say in my case) the bootloader from wm5 2 2003,u do it by faking name 4 the 2003 bootloader.after u change the bootloader you can reflash the system wich is now equal 2 the bootloader ver.
im correct?
is there a way 2 use dell's img files?

That's my take on it, but I have not upgraded to WM5 yet. As for the img files, if you successfully upgrade to WM5, then you can start using the Dell updates - but unfortunately, there hasn't been any.
Try complaining to Dell support that you screwed your X50 when trying to update and they might replace it with a X51 as a few others in the forums have been able to do.

I'm interested in Linux for my PDA, but I have a few questions.

1. Do any of the updates on the Dell website have a backup of the ROM, or is there any others online?

2. Can I use a ThinkOutside BT keyboard or mouse? If not, how do you interact with the desktop?

3. Could I install programs such as OpenOffice?

4. Can I play MS video games on it?

5. Can it be used in combination with Opie, GPE, Familiar, or Intimate?

If i'm rerading this right with this ute. I'll be able to replace wmp10 w/ core media player ect. and pie w/ opera? I'm all a quiver about this idea.
