In the File Explorer, tap-and-hold on the executable in the \Program Files\xxxxx directory where your application resides. On the popup menu, choose "Copy".

Go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, tap-and-hold, and choose "Paste Shortcut". You will then have a shortcut in Programs for your application.

As for switching between active programs, you can either use Dell's Switcher Bar (found in Settings) or some 3rd party app like Wisbar Advance.

You could also use DinarSoft HandySwitcher or if you add SPB Pocket Plus then you can map a hardware button to "switch program" which is quite handy.
