Connecting to the internet using Ad-Hoc Networking
Hiya guys, I have a Dell X51V, haven't used it to much, haven't had a chance to honestly. I have a wireless dell attachment for my dell 400 series gaming PC, as well as a D-Link Router, problem is I have wireless connection, but I'm using dial up, i had the connection setup for remote gaming on my laptop, as well as connecting with my neighbor for some file sharing, that sort of thing. But how do I setup my X51v, to access the internet through my pc using this same wireless network. Ad-Hoc Style. I am using dial up, I've got my PC which uses Windows Media Center setup to share internet connections. Any ideas? I've had no success so far. Primarily want to use this so that I can take tests and such online, on my PC while using my PDA to browse. I am currently enrolled in college :)

Assuming you are using XP, open control panel---> right click on wireless network connections - properties
Select wireless network tab - click Advance - choose computer to computer (ad-hoc) networks only - click CLOSE
Go back to Wireless Network Connection Properties - click Add put any SSID name (I used Adhoc but you can use anything) - uncheck “the key is provided to me automatically”- put in your network key (not less than ten characters)
*note: use default network authentication: open and data encryption: wep
click OK- it brings you back to Wireless Connection Properties - click Advanced again - select “any available networks” *don’t forget to do this otherwise you wont see wireless access points - click Close - Click OK
When you open your wifi, your ad-hoc wireless network should be there and connect to it. Open Wifi on your axim, it should detect your ad-hoc wireless network and click connect.
Go back to Network connections and set up your home or small office network, selecting modem as the way you connect to the internet and wifi card for internet connection sharing and youre good to go. Oh, don't forget to let firewall allow this network connection and ics.
Ok, the Axim, connected to my main PC in the adhoc network, but it still won't connect to the internet. I tried enabling the internet connection through setup wizard. I keep getting a page not found error, the device shows a proper IP address, but won't even ping out. Any other ideas? I have XP Media Center edition.

I see Osi in the window sill.
I see Osi in the diner car.
I see Osi eating doritos.
I see Osi smoking crabgrass.
Osi isn't right.
Under network connections, look for your dial up modem, open properties.
Make sure the under General tab, your modem is checked. Go to the Advanced tab, check on the "allow other network computers to connect to this computer's internet". On the Home Networking Connection drop-down, choose your wireless network connection. Click OK. Connect to the internet, check if you have internet connection using your IE on XP.
Connect your ad-hoc again and check your internet connection using PocketIE. If you still don't have web access, from your X51 go to Start->Settings, under connections tab, choose connections, go to advance tab and select "select networks", set both drop down boxes to connect to "My Work Network". Good luck again.
Thanks,
Actually got it to work 2 out of 3 tries. It's rather interesting, moves a little faster than my current connection speed with the PC, maybe it has less overhead, or reads less or something. Anyhow. Lol thanks.
