Thanks for the information. I haven't had any problems since my update of A06, but made the changes anyway. I do have a question for you. When I sync my Axim I get a pop up saying unable to obtain a server-assigned IP Address. Try again later or enter an IP setting. Now everything syncs find I just want to get rid of the pop up. Can you help me?
I am having the same issue as well.
I haven't finished reading the thread yet, so I apologize if this issue has already been addressed.
I have installed this fix and I am still confused about terminating the Activesync session. Is it always necessary to go to the "Running Programs List" to stop Activesync from running on the PPC once it is started intentionally or otherwise? Pockect Plus does not close it.
Unless I missed it, can someone answer this question? Will the problems happen regardless when ActiveSync is running (ie, if we just synced) even when the workaround is applied? Do we need to manually shut down ActiveSync when done syncing?
You can add me to that list, too. :( Mine was already set to manual, and I have been experiencing some wsod, battery drainage, sd card not reading right, and wifi blinkage. Thought I know not all could be explained by the ever-running ActiveSync. =/
Active Sync to manual tweak is not a proper solution. I still have nasty overnight battery drains. Im sure plenty of others have the same issues even after applying the 'fix'.
For me I can live with it for now, but if it persists over the long haul my annoyance meter will definately shoot up. (*hopes dell provides us a ROM update that actually works, instead of slapping numbers on garbage code and expecting the masses to jump in joy*)
EDIT: Regarding what I think "ActiveSync to Manual" tweak really does?. Its a good way to extend battery life. However the battery still dies overnight at a certain point. Whether it prevents any other nasties? ie WSOD, Dissapearing CF and SD cards, god knows. I know turning on Bluetooth all the time helps with regards to the dissapearing cards issue, but with "AS to manual" Im not sure. Only thing I can see it doing is extending battery life by not running AS all the time.
Just an update - the temporary fix trick is still doing it's thing for me.
I've only once noticed that my CF card had disappeared, and I had one WSOD when plugging into the dock - apart from that, everything is still perfect for me.
It's a shame this little trick doesn't work for everyone. Let's hope Dell sort this problem out properly sooner rather than later.

This server trick was doing its job when I just basically had tcpmp installed, I then installed SPBplus 3.0, still no problems. Then I trialed and removed Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop, installed Pocketmusic Trial and started to really Start to use the 51v for more than just watching vids and now I have my SD and 8GB CF card randomly Dissapearing requiring a soft reset.

I have a 8gb seagate cf drive with a sd card installed in my X51V. I also have applied the server trick. I watch movies from my cf micro drive using the tcpmp application and have had zero issues with the SD or CF card being lost. No battery drain when my unit is off. No white screen of death when my unit is put into the cradle in the off condition, as well as no issues of having to do a soft reset to wake my unit up.
Here's a question. How many people have used some sort of wifi scaning program before having these issues?
I recently had my axim replaced for 20min battery drain and installed a scanner. after using it , bang 20 min battery drain.
Did a hard reset same drain. Having two axims to play with and one extra battery I put the extra battery in the neew system and the battery that just started having issues in the old axim. old axim battery drain 20 mins , new axim battery drain was normal.
Could some of these issues be related to the wireless card placement, and effect when on to the battery?
Since switching to this threads 'server trick' from the 'BT always on trick' three weeks ago I have had zero CF/SD card loss issues, zero 'soft reset to wake my X51V up during turn on' issue, and zero 'white screen of death' issues. My X51V is rock solid now just as it should have been out of the box.

My Dell Axim X50v With Windows Mobile 5 Seems To Be Fixed After The Fix For Activesync. I Was Wondering How You Get The Active Sync To Run And Up Date After This Fix. I Have Only Been Able To Get The Updates By Shutting Down My Desktop Computer And Then Turning Power Back On And Wait For A Reboot. Activesync Then Starts Up And Goes Through All The Processes Of Looking For Changes And Syncronizing The X50v With The Host Computer. I Have Been Unable To Manually Restart Activesync Without The Above Process Is There Another Way That I Have Over Looked As I Like To Leave My Computer In Standby Mode Which Will Not Let Activesync Start For Some Reason.

you have to read the procedure for a fake server to trick the activesync program into not starting up intermittently. The activesync program for dell axim will work ok until a problem occurs with a glitch or a full memory chip which caused the lockup or white screen of death and power discharge. my axim is an x50v with windows mobile 5 which never gave any problems with activesync until i upgraded to windows mobile 5. The orginal windows CE program which was supplied with my axim was lost with the upgrade.
It should be a Sticker until MS come out w/ ActiveSync v10.0 ... fix the "default sync frequencies."
B4 your posting, I have to hack the registry and the \Windows\Activesync\Control.txt file to "bypass" the default sync frequencies.
There're more than one way of doing things, but I find your method (1. Create a fake Server; 2. Change default settings; 3. Remove the fake Server) more practical.
