Thanks for the fix I have had my X51v for about 2 months and did a hard reset after I tried to record a 4 hr meeting. It took the unit down to where it would do nothing. So I deleted the note file and did a hard reset, that fixed that problem and I was back to normal. But then I went to power it up and would not turn on had to pull out battery to get back. It has done it 3 times after this and the WSODwhen tried to dock. Could the hard reset have taken the setting out of manual? I found them at 10min and 4hrs, I followed your instructions and set to manual (both). I will give this a try I am new to the pocket PC I had a Palm prior and had no trouble I hope I will not be disappointed. Thanks for the help I am finding people are willing to share good things here and am excited to be able to learn all these thing. Thanks again and I will let you know if things are back to normal.
Thanks for the information! After spending my Sunday upgrading my x50v to WM5, my Axim got so flaky I was ready to pitch it out a window. I was just about to download the downgrade from the Dell site, but I figured I'd try this first. I hope this works ok! Thanks again!
Hi Thanks for your help. This solved the SD power off problem for me.
However, it has created a new problem. Every time I turn on my Axim X51 it takes about 25 seconds to "warm up". I used to have this problem, but it resolved after I used Dell's utility patch (downloaded Feb 22), however, since trying your fix, the warm-up problem is back.

Do you get the blue dell screen during this 25 seconds?
Thanks for this fix - it's been a great week.....
We beat Real Madrid, Chelski lose and my Axim works. :)
(1)Glad your Axim works :approve: This fix has been around for ages, nice that gOOnerz compiled it neatly on one thread and the mods for making it a sticky. Im glad its helping all the new users. :)
(2)Arsenal could still lose the 2nd leg; So dont jump for joy just yet
(3)Thierry Henry will probably move to Barcelona next Season(Even Vierra has his doubts about Henry staying)
(4)TH scored a wonder goal no doubt; without him, Arsenal are not Arsenal.
i got my axim x51 last week and he probelm of not switching on has been driving me mad. i have even contacted tech support 2 days after i received the unit to report the problem but no one has got back to me. i was just about to return the unit within its 7 day money back period when i came across this fix. trying it now so will let you know how i get on.
i have noticed that wifi eats the battery. i used to have palms before and switched to pocketpc for wifi but havent been impressed with it so far.
ok done the fix, so will wait and see if it works. one question though. if the unit is turned off and the key lock used how can the unit turn itself on to activesync and why would it want to when it is off.
dell support have eventually rung they said that in addition the the fix mentioned above to go in to settings and make the power button do a full power off. i was only putting the axim into sleep mode before which is why the battery was running out. although it now means that the axim takes 30secs to load each time.

Doing a 'full power off' will take your unit much longer to turn on. I have my unit set to not do a 'full power off' when shutting it down and the battery loss is next to nothing since stopping the battery drain when off via ROM A06 update and the 'fake server trick' posted here, but thats IMHO.
Had my unit for about a week (A06) and the only problems I've experienced is it not turning on from being totally off, and sometimes when it's turned on I do not get the command and navigation bars. I'll only get a blank white screen in those two locations.
I just performed the server fix a few minutes ago.
Now I've got a new problem. It may be that I acidentally hit something, but I'm not sure.
I keep getting a screen that I can't close that shows;
Did the fix yesterday. I was motivated to do it after I couldn't get the damn thing to turn on. After a while I got it on and did the fix. ActiveSync doesn't turn on by itself anymore.
However, I never had battery drain before yesterday. I have the power button set to put in standby and holding it will turn it off. I almost always leave it in standby and the battery stays charged for a few days.
Before I did the fix I had a full charge. I did the fix and I put it in standby and the battery. Tried it this morning and the battery was dead. I don't get it. Did I do something wrong? Does anybody have any suggestions? Anybody else have this problem.
Hi everyone. Glad to see this little trick is still working for most people, although it should be said I envisaged Dell fixing these problems officially by now.
I hope this thread hasn't indirectly given Dell a reason to sit back on their laurels. Even if this trick fixes things temporarily for most of us, we should still be bugging Dell tech support for an official ROM release to correct the problems.
P.S. Yes beating Real Madrid was genius, something many of us gooners never envisaged happening. We must stay strong for the 2nd leg at THOF though. After all, we blew it against another lowly team again today in the premiership. Blackburn FFS!
when dell tech support rang me to tell me how to sort out the fake server problem. it was as though they were reading it directly from the main post at the top of this thread. they even told me to call my server and passwords etc fake. i would have expected them to at least change it to dell or similar :)
Applied the fix and my X50v is back to normal. I was seriously thinking of re-grading to 2003. I still soft reset after an active synch and so far haven't had a single glitch, thanks for the tip.
My wife's brand new X51 is working Ok so maybe they have fixed this problem, or is that just wishful...

My x51v AO6 still occasionally (every few days) loses its reference to the installed CF card. The "fix" solved the other problems, and it doesn't lose connection with the card as often as before. I haven't discovered any useage relationships with the loss event, yet.
One thing I have noticed is my USB sync/charge cable connection on my 2nd computer will not sync (temporarily connects, then disconnects) when the battery is low...it was at 17% last night when it wouldn't work. But there is no problem syncing when the charge is above around 80%. Does this relate to the capacity of the USB connection? Does the charge/current draw function supercede or disrupt the sync function? I assume the Dell cradle doesn't have this problem, even with low battery reserve, because it uses two separate cables, one for power/charging and one dedicated to synching - that it in fact runs full power off the AC adapter while it is synching. This latter comment should be a separate thread...is this issue addressed elsewhere?
That is definitaly caused by low power on the USB port. Never try to plug your Axim into a USB port and keep it on unless your battery is 70-80% or higher.
