Is this solution still valid?

For starters I see no menu button in Activesync, just a Tools button (when disconnected).

Also there's no add server link etc. etc.

Yes it is still valid. The menu button in activesync is on the right side of the screen in your X51V. It works great IMHO

I've began to suffer all of these symptoms & I'll see if they go away now that I've switched AS to manual. I use Exchange here at work, I don't mind pressing the 'sync' button now and then.

:::Crosses fingers:::

I'm so tired of it not turning on and both memory cards dissapearing randomly.

Thanks for the procedure!

I've had my X51 for 2 weeks now, and for some reason, Every 3rd time i'd put it in standby, it would never come back on. This has solved my problem!

Thanks for the great advice. You guys kick arse!

I suffer from the WSOD and the flashing wifi light when in standby mode. I tried your solution at it doesnt seem to work for me.

The only way i can stop the WSOD is to turn WiFi off before puting the X51V in the cradle

After reading all the horror stories in this and other forums regarding the Axim X51v I was at first extremely reluctant to part with my hard earned cash to purchase one.

However because of the lack of suitable alternatives and for the fact that I really needed a Pocket PC rather urgently, I bit my lips and made the nervous and painful decision to order for one from Dell.

As soon as the unit arrived, the first thing that I did was to install AS 4.1 then I did the Fake Server hack.

Well what do you know, it has been nearly two weeks now and I never have even once experienced any of the problems highlighted by so many X51v owners all over the world. Now I am beginning to wonder just what all the fuss was about.

I have installed all the games that came in the accompanying CD as well as several others I downloaded.

I have SBP Plus 3.0 running as well many other apps such as TCPMP, Towncompass Almanac and Encyclopedia, Textmaker and a few others, and they are all living happily together without any problems in the little space only slightly bigger that my Sony walkman.

This is one heck of a product. I am a computer geek but a total newbie as far as PDAs and PPCs are concerned. Of course I do not find this little gadget terribly fast, but then I do not expect it to be anyway near as fast as my 3.8Ghz P4. But hey, it plays Hi Res XviD movies...:approve:

Thanks guys. You have all been awesome.

(PS O BTW, I have two versions of bible programs installed in it too. Maybe, just maybe, could it have helped? Hmmm ... ;-)

I have applied ROM A06 and the 'Fake Server Trick' to my X51V. Prior to these two items being applied I would get the WSOD if I did not turn my unit on prior to putting it into the cradle or the sync cable I have. With these two applied now I have not had a single WSOD issue when inserting my unit into the cradle (on or off). I also have had zero instances of a loss of SD or CF cards, no overheated battery and no battery drain when my unit is off.

I had my X51v for about a week now. Applied the fake server trick as soon as I got it. I noticed something today. If I put the unit on standby with wifi turned on when it is connected to a wireless router, it wakes up with no problem. But lets say I turn it on, when it is in the middle of connecting to a wireless router, i turn it off, it doesn't wake up and the wifi light just keeps on blinking thus requiring a soft reset. Anyone tried this or have this same problem?

Ok, after a lot of waffeling, I've bitten the bullet and tried this work-around... my thinking: if Chris approved the "sticky" to this post, it has got to be good! :approve:

Recently, I've had many battery drains, WSOD, overheats and the like... but usually all fixes have been quick. None-the-less, I'd like to avoid having to do the soft resets and finding my X51v battery drained as I look for my work files... :exc:

I'll post in about a month on whether or not it has worked... :activesyn

Yep, I have this problem too. It's annoying, but not a deal breaker. When are Dell gonna give another patch to the masses to fix these probems? grr!
