The fake server works. I just forget to kill AS after I disconnect from the machine. I use continuous sync because I am constently changing crutial tata on the PC and the PDA. So ....
I would like to write a watch script for SKScheMa to kill AS when not connected to the cradel. When I pull off of syncronization I want AS killed (really I would just like to Kill AS but I guess I have to live with it). I am wondering what would indicate that the PDA is disconnected--a program for SKScheMa to watch for inorder to kill the AS. Any ideas?
:approve: Glad this is still working for at least some people. I've actually sold my x51v now, and have since purchased a T-Mobile Vario II (HTC TyTN) so cannot really help any further. I do come back and check out aximsite quite often though.
I note some people of late having problems - the FST has always been a little hit and miss like that. Please fully read and understand the original posts to make sure you know exactly what the FST actually fixes.
I personally stuck with the FST with A12 until I sold it and still had no problems at all. I guess it works for some people and not for others.
All the best chaps :)
This seems to be a popular thread for non-Axim users as well, so thanks for putting it up in the first-place. I had an Axim but sold it and now use a Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTn variant) and have the same issues with AS randomly starting on its own. The only issue I seem to be having is the no-wake from sleep problem. If anyone can create a small program to prevent AS from executing on the device when NOT-DOCKED I would be sure to try it out. I tried the FST and it didn't seem to make a difference.

BTW, Happy Holidays to all!
Fake server has worked for me everytime. I have done hard resets several times for various reasons and I really don't have a problem with AS except that it is a bit slow. You can always use Card Export if you don't want to use AS.

Fake server trick doesn't work for me. If my axim is off when I put it in to the cradle I get the WSOD. I have to turn it on first , then put it on the cradle, if I want to avoid the WSOD. I have the latest ROM. .
I tried the AS trick when I first began to experience some of the symptoms that this trick was supposed to fix. It never worked. What did solve the problems was a hard reset and a deliberate reconfiguration. I think a lot of the problems many experience are due to bad interactions amoung 3rd party programs and not because of AS.
For me the AS hack worked, but it turns on after a soft reset and after syncing so I have to kill it in the memory every time manually. What is just very annoying is, that the battery is discharging very fast although AS is not turned on in the background. Never got an PPC thats battery discharges so fast. :(
I'm a total newbie. I hope I'm going about this the right way. Let me know if not, and I'll pull the post. (I don't even know what a "sticky" is and I just hope I don't cause it to un-stick).
I bought a brand new x51v (Rom Version A12) directly from Dell at the end of December 2006. Having researched the device prior to ordering it, I was fully prepared for having to do this fix. However, after three weeks of heavy use I have yet to experience any of the problems which made the fix necessary in the first place. It's working like a dream and I'm falling in love.
My question, are the problems inevitable and should I go ahead and do the fix anyway?
Hi Steven... I'm in the same boat. Everything works for me without the fix. The only problem I or we have, is activesync trying to connect every x mins. This drains the battery. But the fix does not fix it for me.
So, beside the battery drain, my unit is perfect.

Apparently not just an Axim problem. My girlfriend got an Ipaq RX1950 for Christmas and it was playing up in a similar manner - not turning on, overnight battery drain, etc.
The fake server trick seems to have worked.
So, a Microsoft problem then? No wonder sales of PDAs are falling.
I had these issues until I got Dell to send me a brand new device... not a refurbished POS like they usually give....
I have **no** issues at all. Could some of the people with this issue on this particular ROM revision please provide a hell of a lot more information about their setups??
And I mean a HELL OF A LOT MORE information....
What revision is the ROM? A12?? Got the date? Did it *come* with that revision? If not, how did you install it? What other software is installed? I mean it, list *everything* you installed on the little beasties...
For those that upgraded their own ROM:
How do you know the upgrade 'took'?
Did you uninstall/delete all the crap in your activesync folder on the PC???
Do you sync to multiple PCs??
Did any of your apps get reloaded from Activesync? What I mean is, did any software put itself back onto the device? Did you use the 'add/remove' option in Activesync to reinstall your software?
Bottom line suggestions:
Uninstall Activesync, erase the whole damn folder off your PC. KEEP IN MIND IF YOU HAVE NO BACKUP THIS WILL ERASE YOUR "ORIGINALS" IN THE ACTIVESYNC INSTALL FOLDER!!!
I.E.-> c:\program files\microsoft activesync\
Everything in that folder is Activesync, but ALSO EVERYTHING EVER INSTALLED IS COPIED HERE!!!
To put it another way, try an ACTUAL clean install of *everything* related to the PDA... Activesync, any 3rd party apps.... EVERYTHING.
I still had some issues even WITH my new device until I blew the activesync app and folder outta my tower...
Can't tell you what issues I had back then, since I've reformatted my tower since then (not related to this post)
Post your info peeps!!! Just saying "It don't werk" ain't enough for **HELP**.
I have Axim x50v, ROM A02. The Axim will connect and sync (with AS 4.2) to my one desktop computer. However, it will only 'connect' to my other desktop. It won't 'sync' to this second desktop. I can Explore the Axim from the desktop, but the Sync button on both the desktop and the Axim is disabled. But, I can manually transfer files to the Axim using two explorer windows. I've uninstalled all the firewalls, uninstalled/reinstalled AS and it still won't enable the Sync button. I've also deleted ALL the partnerships on both the Axim and desktop, and started from scratch several times. I think the problem is with the desktop since the Axim will sync to the other desktop. Any suggestions? Thanks.
(This desktop used to sync with this Axim, but just stopped for unknown reason.)
I have waited to upgrade my X50v to WM5 until a ROM update was done.... Now, with the availability of A02, I am running WM5 happily.
I experienced the fast battery drain once, and realized immediately that AS was running in the background constantly. Upon reading this thread (not all of it I must admit), I applied the fake server trick.
Now my question is: I am using Wisbar Advance to skin my X50v and AS never appears in the "Tasks" list of the WA. Is it safe to assume that -even after a USB sync- AS is not loading since it is set to "manual" with this trick?
