Hi all

RE: This issue and TOMTOM on an SD card.

I've had my X51v for 15 months and I'd only experienced the 'overnight battery drain', and disappearing CF/SD card problems a few times until recently. I always assumed that the battery had drained because of a reminder that I'd forgotten was set in Google when I Synced with the calendar using GooSync, which had woken the Axim up in the night. I disabled all reminders. I always assumed that the disappearing SD/CF card issue was a fact of life.

That was until I installed TomTom onto the SD card.

All of a sudden I started to find that TomTom would just randomly boot up while the Axim was sitting quietly on my desk. I think that this must be due to the SD card vanishing and then re-appearing due to the ActiveSync problem.

I've run the fix, so I'll keep a close eye on it to see how it gets on.

I just thought it was interesting, because no-one else seems to have mentioned any other problems with programs installed on the SD card randomly starting up because of this issue.

I hope it's not due to something else.

So my X51v works ok except if I turn it off with an SD card program on, the SD card is not available immediately and the program crashes. I can reopen the program and the SD card is available for new instances, but not for the program that was open before sleeping the device. The fake server trick did not work. Any ideas?

RE: White Screen

Happened to be looking through the forum and realized, I was having the same problem and everytime did a soft reboot. Followed your instructions and now my PDA turns on whenever -- thank you.

One question - do you actually have power on problems etc? If not I'd leave everything as it is.

If you do have problems with powering on etc then you could set the sync to manual and just sync whenever you need to, and not let the Axim do it automatically.

This does defeat the object of having an Exchange server though. In cases such as this I suppose you need to weigh up the alternatives:

1. Suffer powering up problems/missing CF&SD cards but Activesync syncs automatically to download mail etc.

2. Cure the power/CF&SD card problems but have to manually sync.

Neither is ideal, but it will have to do until Dell fix it properly I suppose. Anyone else have experience with this?
Hi, just wondering if there's any progress no this; I'm using a 'real' exchange server sync, but don't really want to resort to manual sync....cheers.

I would just like to say thank-you...not sure what for yet. But hopefully this fix will keep me from using soft reset to as my power source. I will let you know as i just did it, so i will let my axim sit until the next time i need to power it up...of course watching for it to just power up without the soft reset. Thanx again!! Ifor

ActiveSync - Active Program
I have an Axim X51v with version A12 English ROM. I Notice that ActiveSync continues to run as an active program on the Axim even after the program is shutdown.

I was under the impression that with the new A12 English ROM update this was corrected as stated:

Fixes and Enhancements

1. Windows Mobile V5.0 Adaptation Kit Update 2.3.1 enhancement.
2. Audio driver change (headset output gain adjustment) due to French audio regulation
3. Fix system can't wake up with CF card installed.
4. Enhance CF I/O card performance.
5. Fix CF serial modem port Open/Close issue.
6. Support Activesync serial connection switcher.

or am I mistaken by that. What do I need to do to keep it turned off so that it doesn't run as an active program when it's not in sync mode or turned off on standby? With the A06 ROM version I did have that problem and was able to solve it by doing the "server trick", but is that still a problem?

G00nerz: "Maith an fear" (Irish for well done). I have been very frustrated with my x51v dying every day between 8am and 9am. Awful needing to get a contact only to find that you have to wait 2 minutes for a soft reboot.... Have done hard reboots twice. Anyway, tried your fix two days ago and it is working perfectly! Each time I take the machine out of the cradle, I close activesync.

In case there are others who don't know this next bit, read on... To do this (i.e. close activesync easily), someone showed me a nice trick: put Switcher bar permanently on the today page. I have ROM A06 and with that you get Switcher Bar. In the Windows folder you will see two files called "Switcher Bar" (you have to select "show all files" in the menu option in order to see these files). Copy the smaller file (29bytes) and paste it into the Startup folder which is in the Windows folder. It joins other files (or shortcuts - or whatever) such as BTTray, odClientCeAut..., poutlook, SplashV and WirelessIcon (at least, that is what my machine has). Then you do a soft reboot and the Switcher Bar is permanently on the today screen, thereby making it dead easy to close activesync every time you uncradle the device. I feel the machine is like new again - working and being of use to me.

G00nerz, if you had a Liverpool icon, I'd be even happier!! Barso

Not sure about the whole WM5 release version...
First off, I loaded the 2 updates from the Dell site yesterday for the x51 I bought for my lovely wife. Christmas was delayed when I had to soft-reset the darn thing to get it to boot!

Now that the updates are in, the "About" screen shows 5.1.70 (Build 14402.1.1.0) - not sure how that relates to "A06" and other references I've seen.

I have had constant issues with this thing going into hibernation and not coming out without a soft reboot since I bought it. Now that I applied the fake server fix (yesterday), it comes on flawlessly every time I tap the power button with my thumb

I'll have to give the switcher bar thing a try, but I'm just so happy to get over the power button problem, it feels like Christmas all over again!

(Especially since Man U. have gone top!!)

I tried this fix, my X51 sometimes would not come on without a soft reset. We'll see what happens.
Thanks.
