Moto V710 & X51
I am wondering if anyone has been able to or nows how make a Motorola V710 from US Cellular connect via Bluetooth to dial phone numbers?
I have noticed that the V710 just gives me 60sec's to discover it.
Any help will be usefull. Thanx.

Nope, no one has been able to do it. It can be discovered but it can't be paired making it pretty much useless. Everyone is hoping the next Dell update will solve this problem. Whenever that may be.

Dell has chosen to not include a number of Bluetooth profiles in the current version of OS on the X51. There are lots of Rumours/speculation/dreaming that the next version Dell releases will have that functionality restored.
I bought my x51 knowing this (actually I bought my V710 knowing that Telus cripples the Bluetooth on it, but I hacked it :) ), but I really do hope that Dell fixes it.
Hey Purolator, where is my AXIM???!!!!

Sorry for all the questions but you (Pinguin) said that you hacked the "Telus". What is that and how did it help any?

My cellular provider (Telus) chose to cripple the Bluetooth functionality on my V710. They made it so you can't transfer pictures/ringtones to the phone via bluetooth, and also made it so you can't assign a music file copied onto the transflash card as a ringtone.
They do this so you'll pay to download ringtones from them.
Using information from some people much smarter than me on some phone forums who figured it out, I simply edited the seem file, and tweaked the motorola phone tools .ini file, and re-enabled those features :)
None of that applies to the Axim, just to phonetools.

That cool. Thouse phone comp. suck sometimes. Trying to make a dollar off of free things.
The reason I asked was that I have noticed that my V710's bluetooth only lets the discover mode last 60sec's. I was wondering if there was a way to make that last anylonger.

60 seconds is usually enough time. You only need it discoverable to pair it. Once paired, it shouldn't need to stay discoverable.

This is exactly correct. Pairing is a one-time task -- a connection can be made any time after that. It is also very good for security because you don't want people to be able to just randomly discover and hijack your phone.

My V710 is on Verizon and file sharing has been disabled on the phone. If US Cellular is simlar, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was, then yours is also disabled and will not work regardless of discovery time. Dial-Up Networking (DUN) is different and used for internet access. Verizon's V710 supports DUN out-of-the-box. Verizon V710 supports bluetooth headset and DUN. Not supported is file sharing, syncronization, and about anything else you'd like to do with bluetooth.
If you are insistent on file sharing, there are some solutions. One is to "hack" the phone by changing its internal settings. Be advised that this can disable the phone permanently. I've never done any hacks to mine, but you can find some good resources by surfing over to howardforums.com, go to the Verizon forums, then Motorola forums.
Motorola also sells its Mobile Phone Tools software, but I'm not sure if this supports file sharing or not. You'd have to check it out. If it does offer support, I think it is only phone to PC, not Pocket PC.

Oh, now, after posting all that nonsense, I re-read the thread and found that your initial discussion is related to the X51. Although I don't own an X51, I think Wallrat's advice holds true that the X51 won't support any bluetooth profiles that you might use with the V710, including DUN. I'm guessing you'll have to wait for an update.

I gave up on my V710 (it was dying anyway). I now have an E815 which I have disabled EVDO and forced it to use the 1x network. The pairing works well and I can use DUN on thr E815 once that has been enabled on the phone.
An alternative is to wait for the WM5 update which will never come.

I am thinking about switching to Verizon, but the connectivity issue is the sticking point.
Could you explain to neophyte how this works? I have an Axim x51. If I get a E815 what do I need to do in order to be able to download my email occasionally?

CDMAForums.com has all the information you need, including enabling the E815's DUN and disabling EVDO. Once you have DUN enabled, and can access the 1x network, setting up the connection is very simple and explained at length elsewhere in this forum. Once that connection has been set up, all you will need to do to access messages is turn bluetooth on, tap messages, and tap send/receive. Good luck.
