Do I have VGA or do I need an adjustment?
I've got an Axim x51v and after reading one of the "sticky's" I'm wondering if I need to adjust any registry settings to get my screen to display images in true VGA.
I put a couple new Today screens on that were supposed to be VGA. They definitly don't display the same as the screen shots showed at the website I downloaded them from.
Thanks.

the x50v and x51v both have vga screens. what most people don't understand is that vga is a hardware feature, not software. just because a screen has vga (640x480) resolution doesn't mean that it will display the way people "expect" them to. wm2003 and wm5 both use pixel doubling, basically having the same amount of screen real-estate as a qvga (320x240) screen, but because of the extra pixels, everything comes out looking much smoother. to get "true" vga screen properties you can use a program/hack like se_vga or ozvga, only problem is that neither of them are (to my knowledge) yet compatible with wm5.

What does the screen look like? If the image looks tiled, you might need to do a soft reset to make it look right (at least I know I had to on my X50v)

well, you know how your monitor resolution works right ?
Let's say I have a 17" monitor #A which can display 1280x1024 and another cheapo 17" monitor #B which can only display 1024x768
The screen is the same size, yet the monitor #A has more pixels, thus it can displays more stuff.
samething go for VGA(640x480) and QVGA(320x240).
The axim VGA size is 3.7" and QVGA is 3.5" a little off but ....

Egads. Why do people use true vga mode? Are they crazy? I fail to see the point of making everything so incomprehensibly small. It's not as if the screen isn't VGA when you're not using it, everything is just at a higher dpi.) All the worthwhile programs have let you zoom out for the rare times that's actually useful!

I can't stand not being in VGA mode :-)
I like to see more on the page, and I have no trouble reading the text. I've set all the font sizes as small as possible, especially IE and the OS font. It makes life so much better to actuall have information on there. I can't even see half of my today screen when I'm not in VGA mode, having to scroll to get my launch bar or to see the weather is annoying to say the least.
To each thier own I guess.. I certainly won't tell you how to your axim, but I felt the need to explain why I use mine the way I do :-)

I find it mcuh better to have a full Vga Today screen. When running a good amount of plugins it is nice to beable to see them all and not have to scroll. I find it very handy to get the weather/nemail from 3 accoutns Tsks, calander and what ever else i may have up all displayed at once then still have room to throw a program bar and beable to access all my stuff right from the desk top and not ahve to deal with the start menu for quick stuff.
Beyond that with the small text i can see it jsut fine i am used to small text my monitors have always ran in highest resolution they support. and the added benifit of the small screen is noone looking over my shoulder can read my mail/other info.
Guess it jsut comes down to preference but MS should have thought about adding the ability to switch.

Don;t even have to unistall
If you use OZVGA there is a button in the program to switch form VGA to QVGA jsut requires a reset in between. that way you can use it for some things and disable it for others.
You can also force apps to run in VGA without haveing everythign in VGA.
Ex. you like the QVGA today screen but want IE to be in VGA
i am not sure the actual commands to do this but Tweaks2k2 will do it. It is called Brute Force VGA in that program.

I thought OZVGA didn't work with WM5?
