x51v Toy, tool or torture? (New user rant)
This is a rant and not intended to provide any useful information and nor is it a request for responses. If anyone feels gracious enough to address anything contained here in I will certainly be a happy camper though. I have waded through much contained on this site. A bit over whelming huh?
Ok so I got my x51v bout 2 weeks ago as an upgrade to my HP 5450(HA! Well it's the GF's now :( Poor guy). Now this was a hard decision for me as I knew I would be giving up the finger print scanner. Which I love by the way, and yes I am one of the paranoid ppl that password protect everything. Any way, Once I get my screen protector and case(ordered seperatly) and can actually use the device I notice it has no vibrate feature, ugh. Oh well I guess I will just annoy people with the audible alerts. Other than this I begin to use it happily. I read of the problems others are having and I think hmm, lucky me. Other than the really freaking annoy active sync behavior it's ok. Heck I hate syncing any way. I mean isn't this thing a well spec'ed machine in it's own right? Backup and store to the SD card download files from my server, it's all good. Well as I get more and more calander items and notes and what not my device takes longer and longer to turn on. I do happen to notice that it takes about 1/2 the time if I remove the SD card. Odd, but ok. Well in a couple more days it takes over a min just to recognize that I have entered the password and the device freezes when the alerts go off sending the alert sound into a most annoying loop. Unacceptable. Time to flash the ROM to the latest version. I do the backup to my SD card. Flash the little guy. Start the restore. What do you mean this was created in WM2003? It's corrupted???? @!#$!@#$!!!! Ok breathing again it seems it didn't know what it was talking about all my stuff is still there. Now is it just me or does the wireless seem weaker now? I now drop connection in places of my house where it was fine before. Maybe a coincidence? I am hoping. What's going on now with the "Switcher bar"? At times it says there is nothing running when I know better. This seems to happen most often when IE is open. All apps disappear from it's list. Oh and then there are the times when "Switcher bar" just disappears it's self.
Well at least for now it seems much much much faster. The whole password screen appears at one time now instead of piece by piece. Yippie. Dell is lucky for that one. I was getting ready to test out my "complete care" package.
Secondary rant based on my hatred for syncing. Why is it that most apps require you to install the app via a pc?!? URG There is even a site called..hmm...ppccabs or some such and the whole idea (supposedly) behind this site is that you can install the stuff from your ppc. Uh uh. Most files are zips and then still need to be run on a pc.
Ok if anyone took the time to read this(don't blame if you didn't) and would like to respond, maybe you can help me with a most nagging question. Why is it that the only way I can browse my LAN is by using the Odyssey client and then toggling the card(under Network Cards) to Work and then back to Internet when I want to browse the net? What the heck. What is this a Mac 7.5 network stack? Crap. UGH.
Sorry and good night.
P.S. Almost forgot. What is up with every case site selling the exact same cases and pretending like they made them? You know the rubbery ones and what not? Give it up. The clear hard case is nice but NO support for the extended battery???? You have got to be kidding me. What the #$^& is the point? Who is going to spend extra money on a case but not the extended battery? Hmm maybe there is logic there for someone but I can't see it.
