Isn't there a "conduit" from Palm to let you get your data into Outlook? If there is, then you're done. If not, see if the Palm software has some sort of Export to CSV feature and then you can import it into Outlook.

I had the same problem when I got my Axim for christmas. Do a google search for Yahoo Intellisync. You will have to sign up for a Yahoo account then download intellisync. It will export all of your palm data to the Yahoo intellisync section in your account. then you can sync and import the data from intellisync to your axim. Works like a charm.

You can export to a CSV from the Palm desktop software, then import that into Outlook.
From there activesync puts them on your Axim. But it's not entirely pretty.

In palm desktop go into contacts, then click file, export, select comma separated from the dropdown, then make sure select all is clicked, give it a file name, and go.
Go into contacts in Outlook,do a file import and export, import from another program or file, comma separated, and from there you may have some hoops to jump through. Your mileage may vary, but my Palm Desktop (4.1.4) doesn't export too well, so you may need to map the fields, and even then once in Outlook, you'll have some cleanup to do. Mine really messes up the fields.

Couldn't have said it better myself. That's the easiest and most direct method I know of. The only good part is that you only have to do it once!

I found that using the BEAM CATEGORY feature of DATEBK5 was the most expedient.
