Going to need more info than that. What operating system? What version of ActiveSync? What version of Windows Mobile?

You need AS 4/4.1 to work with WM5.

Did you follow the directions in the owners manual and install Activesync before you hooked up cradle and Axim to computer. Just a thought.

You're not alone
I'm adding my own experience here, suffered last night past midnight, so that Scobad won't think he's alone.
Brand new out of the box.
Eight-plus hours of charging.
ActiveSync installed from "Getting Started" CD.
Axim 51v plugged into USB 2.0 port.
WinXP Home OS.
Axim in cradle with power supply.
PC recognizes USB connection.
WinMobile acknowledged by Device Manager under "Network Adapters".
Appears on WinExplorer as "Mobile Device".
Axim software up and running showing Start screen.
PC ActiveSync 4.0 says "Connecting..." for...EV...er.
Soft restart.
Upgrade to ActiveSync 4.1.
Spend an hour with a Dell chat technician's cut/paste solutions, interspersed with some puzzling Engdu. After an hour he (she?) writes "Boot computer and try that. It always works. Bye."
Booted computer, tried "that", did not work (shocked?).
Next: I'm going to install ActiveSync 4.0 from the CD on my laptop at work and go through the setup process there. If the results are the same, I will install on a fresh-from-the-box Dell desktop.
Last: If it still does not synch up, I will send it back for a refund and buy HP4700 (as described elsewhere in this forum along with a link to a comparison review. Wife's works flawlessly).
If I find a process that works, I'll post it here. I like the look and feel of the Axim. I'm excited about integrating it into my heavy work demand and schedule. I'll be an excellent reference for the product if I can get the synch to work.
Good luck, Scobad.
Your fellow sufferer,
Gordo.

Make sure your firewall is disabled for testing. You would need to allow access for activesync to go through the firewall.

Have a look at the services. A very important service is "DHCP-Client", that must be set to run/active. XP Built-in-firewall should not make any probs (I tested my X51v on 4 machines with XP-firewall active - no probs).
AS older v4.x will never work with WM5.

The installation and connection ran fine on my laptop. The only difference was that the installation did not flag loading Outlook as it did on the desktop. My hunch is that unless their software has access to Outlook 2002 or later (I have 2000), the Axim and PC aren't able to converse. This isn't explained anywhere, and it just may be coincidental, but it was the only thing that set the two installations apart.

After connecting your device and nothing shows up. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and under Universal Serial Bus Controller(s) look for an unknown USB device -> Right click on it -> Uninstall -> then disconnect your pocket pc -> reboot computer.
Also before reconnecting your pocket pc be sure to set up your firewall properly. Even better just shut it down the first time you connect. Also make sure the Pocket PC is on when you connect it. I had this same irritatiing problem. All the fixes I could find on aximsite did nothing, till I did this.
